Sur LA MerThe long weekend began with a promise of more of the same in terms of my marriage, and therefore, my life for the past year or so.  The wife and I fell into a blistering fight on Saturday.  I was left alone in the house with the little guy, who thankfully fell asleep.  The Lord sent a rather unlikely mediator (check the Old and New Testaments on this - He's obviously not reading the same resumes that you and I are privvy to) to reach out to us both.  I can only tell you that my session consisted of hard questions followed by harder answers.  We alternated roles between advisor and advisee.  It was the most engaging debate I've had with anyone on this issue, and I felt for the first time that someone actually heard my side of it.The following dawn opened into a late morning exchange whereby the wife and I agreed to recommit to our vows.  The only disagreement came in terms of the speed and depth of this recomittment.  She always was one for immediate gratification, whereas life has taught me the virtues of patience.  In any event, we were both relieved to lower our swords after all this time, and again see each other as partners rather than mortal enemies.Monday was quite literally a day at the beach.  We hit our favorite taqueria on Main for breakfast and retired to the beach.  The little guy announced to the crashing waves that he is indeed my spawn and therefore would not be intimidated by their sound and fury.  He laughed as the whitewater swept over his thighs, ever confident in the grip he had on my hand.  Nothing will ever sweep you from me, dear boy.  I will always keep my hand on you.  There will be bigger waves to test, but know that this old rock has seen the worst of them.  For now let us sit together on the shore and admire the beauty of this deep blue sea.  Tonight, I will count my sorrows, and for the first time in over a year, I'll not get past zero.GDAD
