Day... 60?

Can it really be 60 days?
It feels like a lifetime ago.
Well the writing every day part has not been going so well, as is evident in this journal!! But the 100 days is going strong, more than halfway now. I have been extremely busy with work, ever since getting back from a vacation in Mexico. I can't remember if my last post was before or after the trip.
Things are going quite well. I am content for now, satisfied with my job, and my income, and life in general isn't great, but its ok. I have to accept some things the way they are I suppose, and work to change the things I can control. Alison and I talked pretty seriously about making a huge change, like moving to Mexico, but that has faded with each passing day like a nice dream. The reality is it is quite possible, we could do it, but do we have that much desire to leave our friends, family, and our home behind? Some days certainly yes, other days not so much. The winter has been cold and brutal but when spring comes I'm sure it will pass. I just wish I didn't have to put up with winter lol and lived closer to a beach :) and didn't have to waste so much time working just to pay for a car and gas and insurance... to live simply, in a warm climate, definitely has its advantages.
As for gambling, I'm still getting some urges. I keep thinking about it. Because I've been working full time i have had no opportunity so its been easy staying. My hours will be cut back again for the next few months, so the thoughts will return and the opportunity will be there... so I have to be stronger. There was a few scratch tickets from Christmas still laying around and of course they never lose completely, they always give you a small win which is just enough to buy another ticket. I'd like to think this isn't really gambling and doesn't really affect me, but who know. It certainly gives me no rush, no satisfaction. After getting free tickets a few times I found myself just wishing they would lose so I wouldn't have to keep scratching the damn things!
That being said, I know that other forms of gambling can still entice me. I know the ember still burns deep within me, the desire to play and to win. I am kind of afraid though, which is a good thing. I am afraid of taking that next bet, afraid of losing any more money.
For now I just need to stay focused, stay on task and stay busy. I have so much work to do, even if its not paid work. My wife is about to start a new business which I have to basically manage for her. I also always have marking and class prep to do for my job, and then house work and chores of course, as well as going to the gym to work out... if i need a break from all that I should start doing some running and stuff at night, or find another hobby. The thought of poker has crossed my mind a few times as I look for something "fun" I can do at night from home... but there has to be something better??? And I should remind myself more often than not poker is NOT fun, it is annoying as hell, and even if I'm winning sometimes it gets frustrating and still isnt fun.
Ah well, 60 days down and 40 to go, one day at a time... that will take me right through lent to Easter!

Hi Alex! I was wondering how you were doing when I haven\'t seen you on DS that much....glad to see you are doing great! 60 days is FANTASTIC!!! GOOD JOB!!! Hey, what about joining a book club for something fun? Reading will occupy some of your free time & then getting together with folks to discuss might be a fun substitute for poker. Just a suggestion. Or, maybe make a Mexico scrapbook of you & your wife\'s trip to look at whenever you get tempted to gamble?

Congrats again & best wishes on your journey to your next goal of 100!

:o) Your GF Friend, Cathy
