Back to work
Wednesday, first week back at work, and hitting a bit of a "hump". Found it hard to wake up again today, but I only have myself to blame, staying up late and hitting snooze on my clock, which just makes it harder to wake up not easier! As a result, I was in a rush and stressed and late for work today. Need to take control and get to bed earlier if I want more sleep not sacrifice my sanity in the mornings!
Yesterday was a great day though. I worked in the morning and then I had a meeting with an old colleague about a job opportunity. Although I was hoping for an immediate opening, she said there was an opening but her bosses changed it on her or something. It was still very positive and enjoyable and she says I am at the top of her list as soon as something does come up. We also chatted about this and that, where we used to work, people we know etc.
After that I went to the gym for a very good workout, I workout all year not just January but it does add a little more fuel to start a new year and getting back at it after a bit of a break over the holidays, partly due to being sick. I have some very clear goals in mind now at the gym, which helps motivate and encourage. I need to work on establishing better goals in other areas of my life! But I do have some in mind for other areas as well... Owning my own business or investing in something very soon is very high on the list, maybe flipping a house or something since I have become very good at home improvements over the last few years!
After working out I went for some "fake sunshine" which I love to do... Winter really gets me down so I like to spend a few minutes dreaming of warm sun and beaches - and often literally dreaming as I drift off to sleep. I haven't done it in a long time so it was nice to go do that again.
At that point it was getting late and I was already super tired but I had to go home and make dinner and I had some ideas of something new to try, so I threw some things together, it took me about an hour to make it but it was worth it! It was like a shepards pie, ground beef, but with a spaghetti type sauce and sweet potato mash toppping, it was extremely delicious, and my wife loved it too!
All in all, life without gambling is looking pretty good. I went to my first GA meeting in about 2 months on Monday, and it was good to see everyone. I often cant make it bc of work, but I also don't know if I would want to go every week. It gets repetitive, the same guy who leads it says the same things over and over like a script, but there is always a few good pieces and a few new elements, new members etc.
I still think about gambling occassionally, if/when/what kind of gambling I might consider doing in the future. The important thing is to remember what has happened, how bad it gets, to know gambling for what it is, and to continue to make the best choices, and for me that is choosing not to gamble! Maybe eventually I won't even think about it any more :)

Great journal entry Alex! Parts sound extremely familiar [not getting enough sleep]. How great that things to be falling into place for you. I know what you mean about the GA meeting. I guess it does get that way if you go there a long time [that guy]. I have a guy like that at my meeting, and I have to remind myself to be patient, and listen, even when my eyes are glazing over, lol. I go to two meetings a week, and sometimes I am extremely tired, but I do the thing where I say to myself \"would I have went to the casino if I was this tired\" the answer is YES! So I go to the meeting. I am so proud of you, and wish you nothing but the best. Love, Estel.
