So I threw a party in the 3D world and nobody came! Well, not really NOBODY........and before you think that this is sad and tragic and pathetic and pitiful and yet another reason I should just abdicate life in dimensions..... You should know that I'm actually OK with it and was actually even OK with it as it was happening. I will say that I spent a lot of 3D cash I wish was still in my pocketbook where it belongs, but other than that, it's all pretty cool........... And I honestly think you guys are the reason I am so comfortable with it.......... Which is really saying something as one of the "no-shows" was in fact the guest of honor! Here's the "play-by-play":Two weeks before school ended, I made a date with my buddy S (whom I subbed for in math last Winter) to come to my place for margaritas after grades went in on Monday 25th. We go back 7yrs and have had play dates between her daughter (born 10 months after my Sugarpuss) and K and she is one of those people you make friends with at work that you stay friends with forever just because you're both lucky enough to get what it means to have friends like that in your life even after you've both moved on to different job placements.....So I had already established the grown-up "play-date" when we found out that the department chair of the section I was subbing in (Family and consumer science is the department that covers health-science and chef's school at the high school I was working at) had been offered and accepted a job in another district. Two other gals in the department wanted to have some kind of "gathering" for C, who was leaving, but didn't know what or where or how to deal with the specifics. Since I like all of them and since it would also include the gal I was currently subbing for (if she hadn't had her baby I wouldn't have been in that dept. at all) I decided to expand the scope of my "pre-arranged play-date" toaccommodate everyone.... Although I cleared it with S first. Anyway, it didn't work out on the last day of school. Too many things we all had to take care of and too many different time-frames to sort through. So I/we rescheduled for Saturday the 30th. But K (who I'd been subbing for) said SW couldn't make it on the 30th but was OK for the following Sat. (day before yesterday) so I switched dates again and emailed all the girls about what was up and said I would assume they were all going to be there unless I heard otherwise. I spent the week cleaning, working in the yard, shopping and cooking and the only people who came were S (who had originally been the only one invited) and K (who I had spent the last 2 months subbing for). C; the guest of honor, SW; the one who had the idea to have a send-off for C in the first place, and G; were ALL no-shows! K only stayed for a couple of hours (she would have stayed longer but one of her boys fell off his bike rather spectacularly and wanted his Mom..... and hey.... she was still there! *big smile here*). So mostly it was just S and I and you know what?...... That was just fine! I have learned from ya'll that party's have a life of their own and once you set up the parameters you need to just stand back and let it happen as it will. In many respects, it was really more important to see that I could actually manage all the details, set a plan and follow it through, then have all the guests show up. This time last year, I don't know that I would have been capable of managing all the details, let alone getting all the work done. So the fact that I was ready and stuck to the schedule I made for myself was really the best part of all of it. The fact that over half my guests never even came AND IT DIDN'T BOTHER ME AT ALL...... well, that was really just icing on the cake! Really! Thanks girls! It's an enormous gift to realize that my self-worth isn't tied to the people but rather my ability to follow-through with the set of tasks I have set myself to make the event possible. As a result of this "party" I have made HUGE progress fighting back the weeds in my rose beds, have gotten all my container gardening and chairs/tables/"stuff" set-up and arranged on the deck AND gotten a head start on the laundry/mud-room organization and cleaning! All of which means I may actually, for the first time in 3-4 years, get a majority of my "things to do during the summer" listCOMPLETED! Something I am allowing myself to feel cautiouslyoptimistic about...... although only time will tell.So thanks girls. Thanks for taking me with you to Oz (kind of what this place becomes from time-to-time). Thanks for putting the courage in this Cowardly Lion, the heart in the breast of the Tin-man, the brains in my Scarecrow and for saving the Dorothy in me from the Wicked Witch of the West. You are all, without question, the Munchkins on my yellow brick road!!................You know that's a compliment right?.................Hmmmmmm, it's beginning to look like I'm getting my sense of humor back on!:-)

I\'m so glad for you!! Way to roll with things Janine -- :o) Lari
A Hatter party in 3D and there were people who didn\'t show? They obviously did not know what they were missing! So glad that we munchkins assisted in some small way...and speaking of munchkins...that\'s what my son called the little ones he tutored in history...his munchkins. I am honored to be a munchkin! And Yay!!! for you for remembering that you are you (worthy, loved, special, wonderful, capable, Teacher God!!!!) regardless of other people\'s behavior.
we need another party... To celebrate WANAMAKERS declaration of independence from a wicked -itch... choice of first letter is yours.... a kiss my party for all those folks we don\'t want to invite... just get together and talk mean about them... and eat all the wrong things and sing crazy songs and have elephants and tigers and bears oh my... *Smile* I\'ve missed you... Hugs Elissa
Have you ever noticed that 3D parties usually have invitation lists that only have one or two people you really like? The rest are politically correct invitees. It is sort of like getting roped into having a candle demonstration.
Janine I think perhaps you never give yourself enough credit .... for anything! I would like to point out that you are a fantastic writer with the most imaginative way of working satirical, pessimistic, and negative situations into humorous context. Do you know how much of a gift that is? It serves to lighten serious situations enough to allow re-evaluation, pulling one back from depression to a more tenacious stand on injustices, and drawing all in to a play period where the mind is allowed to soar free of everyday drudgery. HMMMM. I really don\'t think you value yourself highly enough.
I believe Bear, Molly, Figaro and ummmmmm you know who I mean the fourth of July tree cockatiel....were and are very fortunate to have you. Wherever they are now they have learned something that many are not fortunate enough to have experienced...devotional LOVE! Imagine what they can do with that gift.
I will not presume to speak for the others however I will speak for me....I value you. I have missed you. I enjoy you. And I think we should all compile a list of those we should gather in a tight little group to drop a house on. :}
Love Ya
Kathy
Did you know that Elsbeth was not Wicked? She was just green! Glenda was actually her best friend AND the scarecrow was the man Elsbeth loved. She turned him into the scarecrow to protect him from her father...the wizard, who was evil. HMMMM. I wish I had time to figure all that out in today\'s context. Now quite as easy as the poppy field. I always had a soft spot for the flying monkeys. They overcame servatude and fear and became brave and giving. HMMMM. Of course the house falling was a bad homelife and the characters an escape into fantasy from terrible surroundings. Love of course conquers all. HMMMM. Dorothy eventually realizes that the love that everyone feels for her is deserved because she is brave, cares for her friends, makes mistakes, can admit it and learn from them and make a difference despite her weaknesses. HMMMM. Poor Elsbeth...she was bullied and threatened... apparently she did not die under that house she escaped and was hidden by Glenda and reunited with the scarecrow who was transformed back into the man she was in love with. They did live happily ever after. HMMMMM. Not all is as it seems in OZ.
