Another good day overall. It was slow to start, I need to figure out a way to stop fighting the snooze button but when you're more asleep then awake it's hard to change something that you do without thinking. I've tried putting the alarm further away so I have to get out of bed but I'll hit snooze or turn it off and crawl back into bed without even really cluing in...or I'll ignore it completely and it'll just go off continuously until whenever it shuts itself off. Anyhow, aside from that it's been a good productive day. My parents came over and picked me up and took me to get my license/ID renewed as it has to be done before my birthday (Thursday) and Wednesday (tomorrow...okay, technically today) we're suppose to have that major storm. On route to the office were I had to get that done I found out it closed sooner then I thought....wasn't sure I'd make it there in time but somehow managed to get there with about 10 minutes to spare. Mom likes an excuse to drive fast I think...I told her she better not get herself a speeding ticket.
Got that done and took a quick trip to a new thrift store that opened up. Bibles for Missions. It's only been open a few days and we only had about 15 minutes to look but it seemed quite nice. Looking forward to going back when we have time to really look around. Could be dangerous. I have a couple bags of donations I've been saving just for them so will make a point to take them soon. Went for coffee after at Tim Horton's. I got an herbal tea (Honey Lemon)...too late in the day for any caffeine for me. After that my parents dropped me at one of the malls to put in time while they went to an appointment. The mall is sadly in decline and half the stores are closed out but I enjoyed looking at a few stores that have so far survived and walking the length of the mall a couple times. I treated myself to an LED light for my Kobo, really that is NEEd is it not? LOL. Okay maybe not but now I am all prepared if we lose power, I'll be able to read in the dark. I also came across a set of black and white cat salt (white cat) and pepper (black cat) shakers that were super adorable and for $5 I couldn't leave them. I'm fairly obsessed with anything black cat and so I will add them to my collection.
After my parents appointment we went to supper at one of the local Irish Pubs. They're participating in Burger Week were quite a number of restaurants throughout the city are promoted specialty burgers with a portion of the proceeds ($5) going to the provincial foodbank. Their burger was a Apple Chutney Pork burger with arugula and goat cheese and it came with sweet potato fries and curry mayo. It was nice to try something out of my normal range and it was actually pretty tasty. They provided gluten free options as well which is always a bonus. Well the fries aren't...there's flour in the starch or something that they use but the bun was GF so it's nice to be able to keep it to a minimum. Since it's my birthday month I also had a choice of a free dessert or an alcoholic drink or specialty coffee. I went with my favourite dessert (mostly because it's to die for, but partly because it was the most expensive of the options). Gluten and flour-free dark chocolate brownie....which basically you'd never in a million years guess is gluten free and tastes just like homemade. So it was an enjoyable time and a little early birthday celebration. It felt weird just being my parents and I...this particular place when we go is usually a bunch of the family together but one sister is currently in Italy (she leads a rough life, I tell ya) and the other doesn't get paid until later in the week, and we didn't even think to invite anyone else. We'll do a real family get together when my sister and her husband get back from Italy next month. Don't you think they should have taken me with them as a birthday present? LOL. I tried to get them to pack me in a suitcase but it didn't work out.
It's about 1:30am and as far as I can tell no signs of the storm here yet...but I'm sure it'll show itself soon enough. It's all over twitter, I imagine it's all over Facebook too but I can't check there. Apparently my poor sister texted my traveling sister and the traveling sister said it must be big news because this storm has made the news in Italy. I really hope it's not that bad but it's not sounding good. Picked up a few groceries before heading home tonight just to be safe. In all honesty though, as far as food goes, I think Ebby's food supply is in better standing then my own. *sigh* Oh well...I got a few chocolate peanut butter Easter eggs....those things are essential ya know. :)
