Hope in God; for I shall yet praise Him. —Psalm 42:5 The high school commencement speaker was the president of a large corporation. He was chosen for the occasion because of his success. Yet his speech came with a most unusual wish for the graduates. The speaker told the students sitting before him in their graduation gowns, “If I could have one hope for you as you go out into the world, it would be this: I hope you fail. I hope that you fail at something that is important to you.” He went on to say how his own early life had been one failure after another, until he learned to see failure as an effective teacher. Many of the songs of Israel were born in seasons of failure. Out of desperation came the cry, “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God” (Ps. 42:1-2).Sometimes we are not ready to see the wonder of God’s wisdom and strength until we are gasping for breath in the exhaustion of our own strength.A recurring story of the Bible is that mountains of faith rise from the valleys of failure. Before discovering the high ground we are looking for, we may need to see the failure of the dreams we hold in our hearts and trust instead in the love, wisdom, and guidance of our God. — Mart De Haan The lessons we learn from our failuresAre lessons that help us succeed,And if we are wise and we heed them,Then failure is just what we need. —D. De Haan Learn from your failures, or you will fail to learn. ~~~ Yesterday I got off the bus on the way to my rheumatology appointment and who did I run into but my friend and her daughter and the little girl she babysits. How cool is that. I could hear her little girl, Faith, from across the busy street screaming my name. She's only 2 so it absolutely adorable. My friend says it was perfect timing because she was just starting to get stressed out because Faith was starting to act up. So the 3 of them came upstairs and waited for me while I had my appointment and then we hung out for a couple hours afterwards. My rheumatologist said there hasn't been any changes in the bloodwork so that there wasn't really any sense in staying on the Plaquenil. She said if I wanted I could stay on for another 6 months but there hasn't been any noticeable improvement so she didn't think there would be any. So I said I'd stop it. No sense being on it if it doesn't seem to be doing anything. And I will see her one more time in December and we'll go from there. She said at this point there's nothing much to do except just keep on eye on the blood work every month or two. If anything changes in the mean time I can go back sooner. But she can't officially diagnose Lupus since the only thing that indicates I have it is bloodwork. I don't have any other symptoms that are definitely from Lupus....so for now it is "Lupus-like" condition. *shrugs* She said maybe when I see genetics hopefully sometime this Fall they will be able to tell me something more. Since the bone marrow biopsy and bloodwork did show an abnormality with one of my chromosomes. I dunno. We'll see I guess. Playing the waiting game yet again. Anyway, my friend and I hung out for a few hours. We went to Tim Horton's since it was Camp Day. Money raised yesterday goes towards helping kids attend the various Tim Horton's camps around the country. My friend and the two girls grabbed a seat at one end of Tim Horton's while I went to the counter to place the order. I surprised them with a small box of timbits (donut holes). Hehe...the lady at the counter was laughing because I'm standing there waving at Faith because she's calling my name and saying "money"...the lady at the counter asked if she was mine and I said no she's my friends girl but she wants my money. LOL. She gave us extra timbits. It was cute. My friend showed me where some of the geocaches were that I hadn't found yet so that was cool and we did a bit of walking. We talked about the idea of my moving in and I was honest and said I'm keeping my mind open but that I'm not sure that's the right option right now. I did tell her that if it would help I could go over once a week, maybe twice, and help out. She said that would help. So I'll probably start that next week. I think it will be good for all of us involved. Plus her and I are thinking of attending a walking group that starts in July. I think we'll both benefit quite a bit by it. Anyway after I bit I had to run because I needed to get home, do a couple errands around the house, and boot it out the door again to head out to my sisters to see their new trailer for camping. I can't bus all the way out though so had to have my 16 year old nephew pick me up. It was interesting but I was pleasantly surprised by his driving. It didn't really make me nervous at all...and that's odd. Because my mom's driving scares the bananas outta me. LOL. He did really good, I'm impressed. Plus that's the longest we've been around each other in years so it was a great opportunity to chat. I treasure that moment. The trailor was cool but only stayed for a few minutes because we had to head back into town to Boston Pizza to meet up with a lot of the family for a surprise "Congrats" supper for my Aunt who just finished all her cancer treatments last week. It was a lot of fun and got to see a lot of family I haven't seen since around Christmas. Anyhow, I got home last night and crashed pretty soon after. And yikes, just looked at the time and I've got to be at an appt in 15 minutes with my psychiatrist and I'm still in my pj's. So off I go.
