Another great devotional today.  This one is powerful.  What is it you're being tempted by?  I know right at this very moment for me it's to stay in bed and go back to sleep instead of getting up for church.  But that would be my will, not God's.  My short little journal entry is at the bottom after the devotional. Not My Will  June 1, 2008  Key Passage: Luke 22:39-46  Topic: Prayer; Sin/Temptation  And when he came to the place, he said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation." (Luke 22:40, ESV).  It's the calm before the storm; the quiet before the chaos. Jesus has taken gone out to a peaceful garden to pray, knowing His mission is about to be fulfilled. In an hour, maybe even less, He'll be betrayed, then arrested, tried, tortured and crucified.  For this moment, let's focus on Jesus' prayer and what He said to His disciples.  Jesus prays, "Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done" (Luke 22:42). Knowing exactly what's ahead, Jesus asks for a change…but He also willingly and knowingly submits to the will of the Father. Even though it will mean His own suffering and death.   A few minutes earlier, Jesus had told His disciples to pray so they wouldn't get caught or overcome by temptation. What temptation? To sleep? They did it anyway. To run away when the trouble started? Well, they did that too.  Perhaps the temptation here is the one Jesus Himself was facing--the temptation to do our will and not the will of the Father.   C'mon, we're good at this! We want to do our own thing. We're always torn between following our own desires and doing what God wants. And the temptation to do that gets us into the most trouble.   We choose our own way--in rebellion, stubbornness, selfishness, sometimes even laziness. We don't pray to do the will of God; we go right ahead with our own. And so, like the disciples, we fall down on the job.  Jesus says, "Pray that you will not be overcome by temptation." Pray that you won't give in to that desire; but also, while you're praying, focus on doing the will of God the Father. And because you're seeking that, praying for it, you'll find it harder to follow whatever is drawing you and your own will away.   What are you praying about today? For your own will or for God's? That'll keep you from temptation.  ~~~ So, yes I know I've been posting a lot of devotionals and not so much about what's going on in my day to day life.  Simply put there isn't much going on.  I've had a very low key couple of days...mostly spent in front of the computer on either facebook or on a new game I found called second life.  Still trying to figure out what I think of it.  It's been rather uneventful the last few days and that's probably a good thing after all that was happening last week. Oh, it's June 1 now!  Where did the time go?!  I can't believe how quick this year is going so far.  Wow!
