Jeff has been gone for 1 1/2 years now. I live in your fog. I no longer have fun doing anything. Well, maybe eating. My husband wants me to join him in the mindless banter that we used to do. You know, just talk and tease and joke around. I just want him to shut up. I'm lost in my own little pretend world where my son is alive and if I must speak to someone outside of this private world then Jeff is dead again until they shut up and let me be. Wow. does that sound crazy or what? I'm not the same person that I used to be. I don't even know that person anymore. I saw a picture of myself recently and didn't even recognize myself. The weight gain and aging that has happened in the past 1 1/2...Who knew it was even possible. We go on though. We're not allowed to stop. I'm not a quitter anyway. I guess we just have to accept who we are now. That's the easy part. I can do that. The hard part is getting everyone else to accept that this awful thing happened to me and it altered me. This is who I am now. Take me as I am or move on because unless you can bring me my son back I'm not very likely to change for anyone. Not my husband, not my mom, not even my other sons. I am truly sorry if that offends anyone or even hurts some feelings. The sad fact of life is that sometimes we hurt the ones we love and maybe this is just one of those times.

2 years yesterday for me...I know how you feel. I used to feel the same way...still to in some areas, but I am changing...starting to kid around with my husband (to his releif), laughing, today I noticed at a bridal shower, instead of thinking I would never go to my son\'s brides shower, I found myself laughing telling jokes and enjoying the day for her...so I want to let you know that there is hope. I thought that I would forever be that haggered looking person in the mirror...but I am finding (slowly) that things are changing...I am changing and not everything is bad about the new me.
Can\'t wait to meet you in San Diego!
Are you in the process of moving?
Ann
It seems impossible...doesn\'t it? A few months back I decided that I did not want to be doomed to a life of saddness and sorrow. That there may always be a shadow over my life...but that I would have happiness too...I wanted joy. I think of Alex all the time...I cry for him most days...but WHEN there are joys I allow them in. I am hoping that you will allow any moments of happiness to trickle in...YOU deserve it. I also wonder have you talked to a med doctor or a counselor? I talk to someone about every two weeks...(19 months since Alex passed) and my husband went on some meds. Both help us. We ARE different now...but I choose to believe that we can enjoy things too. Love and hugs to you...Karen
To many of us it still is not real. Yes, we\'ve definately changed and that other person is not coming back, ever. Who we are now remains to be seen. Just do what you can when you can and don\'t worry about the rest. Love and hugs Cathy
