This is going to sound strange but I did a good thing by taking something away from my kids. For years the kids have been in a bowling league and for the most part it was a struggle. Every Saturday morning geting up and out to the alley and most of the time with them arguing with me. Once they were there it was okay. I would spend two hours keeping them focused and demanding they enjoy themselves when I think they would have preferred to be watching cartoons. That was what my sisters and I did on Saturday mornings when we were kids, watched cartoons. I can remember being excited over the new season each September. Anyway, this year I have decided that I have been spending too much time running here there and everywhere trying to help them enjoy and be involved. All they want to do is watch cartoons. Bowling was expensive and a lot of work for me. In the last year I have been chasing everything I thought would make life better and more fun for them. I think what I need to do, no I know what I want to do, is slow things down for all of us and let them figure out what they enjoy and not what I choose for them. So for the first Saturday in years they are watching cartoons and I am taking some time to reconnect with friends that have been helping me through. Everyone is still in the jammies and things are relaxed for the first time in a long time. It feels weird and good at the same time. It is hard for me to slow things down and not be on the move and maybe that is part of my stress, not being able to just be and relax. Think I'll work on that one.
