What's happening in our life!
In July my hubby had to have oral surgery to remove 5 teeth that were broken off at the gums. Before we could get an appointment scheduled he had lost 15 lbs. We went to our PCP and she recommended a supplement added to help with appetite. She also changed some of his meds. Then we found out that our PCP had changed insurance carriers and we had to either find 5 new specialist or change PCP. So we finally found a new PCP and she of course sent us for all kinds of tests and found new things to order tests to check out.
Hubby was refusing to eat. He complained of and saw bugs everywhere. He had lost more weight and had to go to emergency room. Dehydrated and more tests.
They discovered that he has a problem with his thyroid so meds for that. UTI was discovered so there is medicine for that. I was praying that when he gets these new things resolved that the hallucinations would stop. But he continues to have problems. I have sprayed our house 4 times this month. There are NO bugs!! He sees them all over the house, in the walls, on the floors, all of the furniture. He even even thinks they are on him.
I try to be responsive to his asking me to look and see the bugs. I look and try to explain why he sees something wrong when it is a piece of string or a little leaf or any other thing that he sees. He is not having other things that he sees, just bugs.
We went to his Movement specialist last week. When we, I, explained about his not eating her answer was…..” I don’t care what he is seeing I am worried about his eating”??? Doctor, he is not eating because he is seeing things. But he was diagnosed with PD dementia last year and now she says , it also might be PD Dementia with Lewy Body. I know some of you have someone in your life that has dealt with this so if you can give me any input I would appreciate it.
He is getting more frail and weak every day. He does use his walker but still falls at times. He is still taking PT at home and it does help just not as much. He has to have help to get into and out of his clothes.
The doctor did start him on Aricept. So I hope that with everything combined that he is on now that he will be better soon.
I am not ready for this part of our journey to come speeding through.
I have not written a journal but I do check in and try to keep in touch with everyone. I hope I have not lost any friends because I value all of you. Big Hugs to all!!! pat

I\'m so sorry to hear about your hubby\'s dementia problems. The seeing bugs must be scary for him and frustrating for you. I hope that the Aricept helps him. My hubby is starting to be forgetful of recent things. i hope & pray he isn\'t starting with any kind of dementia, that it\'s just our age, he is 69.
Love & hugs & prayers,
Lois

oh Pat , i am so sorry to hear of your troubles, although i don\'t have the same problems with my hubby,i know what life is like when you are trying to get help for a loved one and no one seems to understand the problems you are going through...my hubby has c.o.p.d and has been in hospital a couple of times in the last couple of weeks,he has changed so much,i never know what he is going to do next, and he seems to have gone back in his mind to a child, which is hard for me because i am not his mother but have to treat him like one most of the time,he is so forgetfull, and then lame me when he gets hings wrong, but like you i married my hubby for better or worse in sickness and in health,i hope things pick up for you both soon, love and big hugs for you both,Nell.
Joe, Thank you for your response on my journal. I appreciate your concern..
Nell, Like your hubby, mine has changed so much in the past year. At times he does seem like a child. I sit here at night watching him sleep in his recliner and feel so sad at all that we have lost. He is here with me but still he is not ! I hope that you and your hubby have a wonderful Christmas and a New Year filled with peace. Hugs, pat
Dear Pat,
I hate this disease. Let me just say that again...\"I hate this disease.\".. I can\'t tell you how many times I have said that in the past 6 years. I know the difficulties of \"seeing bugs\". Oh my gosh, how many times I went through that with my mom and Carl...there were no bugs. But, mostly my mom saw a lady and 2 children...and she was adamant about it. she would bet me her whole house that there was a lady sitting there and what was wrong with me...followed by \"Melody, I\'m not nuts!\".....whew. And I knew she wasn\'t nuts.
Do you think it\'s the PD or any combo of meds? I know those are very powerful drugs they use for these illnesses, they really play with the mind.
My prayers are with you and your husband Pat, remember to take care of yourself....love, xoxo hugs, Melody
Thank you Melody!! He does seem to see other things at times. My hubby also tells me \" I am not crazy\" and I tell him I know that. I am not sure how to respond about the \"bugs\". I do tell him that I do not see the bugs but that I do understand that he does see them. I was trying to find out it was the thyroid or UTI causing this. But after a month the meds he is still seeing things.Thank you so much for the love and hugs!! xoxopat
Sometimes they just see things. NO help. I hope you are taking care of U too. Are U getting any respite? I worry about u. U and ur\'s are in my prayers. Hugs Marlene
