Thought for the Day. As we are all aware, all of us here have mental, physical, addiction and spiritual difficulties. Some of us have one, some or all of these at different times in our lives.I had to self medicate with percocet again today.maybe i should set a goal to stop self-medicating with painkillers.i dont feel like im replacing one addiction for another because i only self-medicate occasionally but i really wish my depression would go away so i dont feel the need to do that at all. i asked my "shrink" why cant he just prescribe me some narcotics because they really lift the depression to the point whre i can be functional. In my mind, its not really any different than prescribing other meds that make me feel like shit to supposedly make me feel better eventually. i didnt expect him to agree with me or prescribe them for me but i just had to state my piece to him to make some kind of point i guess. he gave me the old,"well as you know you have addiction problems and what would happen if I did just that?" i asked him if he meant on a sociological level or was he referring to me.I was kinda confused but we dropped the subject to discuss the evil psychotropic meds that he is allowed to prescribe.i told him i guess it would be complete chaos and anarchy on a social level and he kinda chuckled.im just tired of feeling soooo depressed and non-functional that i have to self-med. with these narcotics. It started out as a torturous day but due to my consuming of the percs,i was then fine and dandy.if anyone has any thoughts about this issue, please feel free to share them with me.Peace and love to everyone.luv,LOLA***

I feel the same way dear heart. Pain killers make me feel so much better; they kind of act like an antidpressant for me but I cant take antidepressants as they make me want to jump out of my skin. so, I totally understand where u r coming from! Feel better soon!
Hey Lola, I can relate. I love painkillers. They make me feel level headed and happy at the right doses. Problem for me is if I start doing that then I also go down that raod of abusing them because they can make me feel reaaallllyyy good. I was reading an article yesterday when I was in the waiting room at outpatient and it talked about why we all have a drug of choice and how it\'s no accident. Alchies choose it because at a base level they tend to be introverts that often feel outside the circle of everything and learned that alcohol not only helped them socially but that when they drink they suddenly feel what they imagine normal is to other people. I could really relate to that. They said stimulants are often attractive to people who are physically depressed or have way too much energy. Something about painkillers and anxiety issues was in there as well. But the article described how it was an actually difference in our brains that predisposes us to these things. Makes me wonder what treatment is going to look like in 20 years if they are finally figuring it out that we don\'t start off abusing this stuff. We start off needing it to handle other crap we can\'t possibly treat. If they ever make a pill to give me the same mental effects alcohol did minus the feeling of being drunk and the cravings? I would be there in a heartbeat.
You may not like my advise...but like you I too was addicted to drugs(percocet, ambien, pot,)add alcohol and that was my fun friday.I\'d take perc, wash it down w/wine and feel fine...then i\'d fall asleep wake up hour later and take ambien.
You unfourtanetly are replacing one for the other! you will build tolerance and need more more often.
I kicked all the perscribed drugs 1 year ago when I made up my mind I had a problem. w/o drugs i used booze more! i can say i don\'t need percsribed meds, but the booze i still can\'t kick! I still go every 2-months sober than fall. this time I am conviencing myself not to fall. hope i helped and not hurt!
