The hospital has to pay. It has almost surely received visits from the state licensing agency and may even be penalized (refusal of Federal monies given to hospitals). The people responsible have to live with this for the rest of their lives.
The rest of your life is one day at a time. Just like mine. Just like those other mothers here on DS whose children have gone before them. We are without a part of our souls. Each of us handles this differently. I give it to God, who is the source of my strength. I look forward to seeing my daughter again because I strongly believe (and there is much evidence) that consciousness/soul survives physical death. It\'s a heavy burden which we bear. Perhaps it will grow lighter at some point, in time, but surely it will never leave us. The purpose for this will be made known to us. God bless you.

Lori, you have been your daughter\'s voice! I know she is so very proud of her momma. Take some time to reassess how you can continue to honor Sarah\'s life with the rest of your life. But to do that you must rest a bit and as Jill said, take it one day at a time. I know your calling, your meaning will come to you. Love to you and Sarah, Linda
A huge exhale indeed and yes, this does become the question for each of us and our lives. I cannot add anything that has not been mentioned already by Jill and Linda but my heartfelt affirmations that in time you will hear and feel the call... It is there...
Loving care and job well done... It might have been so easy for some to walk away yet you entered in with courage.
Be well and take very good care of yourself as you discern what the next steps may look like.
