When Sarah died her organs were made available for transplantation. At some point the donor family and recipient are able to get in contact with one another, if all parties are agreeable.
The woman who got Sarah's heart not only sent me a touching and loving letter, she sent me an EKG tracing of Sarah's heart beating strongly inside her body. I touched and held this piece of paper so much that I was afraid that it would disintegrate. I laminated it to maintain the integrity of it.
Earlier this month I had an idea and took the EKG tracing into a local printing and graphic center. They were able to print it onto a long-sleeved t-shirt for me (it's cold up here in Wisconsin and I wanted to wear it right away). When I wear it people ask questions about what it is. They are very sympathetic when they hear about the death of my daughter at the age of 29, but fascinated but the whole process of organ donation. Maybe some of them will consider signing up for organ donation if they haven't already done so. Sarah's activism continues!

How wonderful, how bittersweet... I would like to know that part of Jenn continues to live (she had cancer so was not organ donation potential)
That Sarah\'s gift can inspire others to think of organdonation is great !!! Keep up the hard work.

I can only imagine how that feels to hold that EKG in your hands. What a loving and thoughtful thing for the recipient of your daughter\'s heart to do. Wow!

Sarah does live on in so many ways and I hope you wear the shirt often as I know it brings you comfort. Maybe only taking it off when it\'s laundry time... :)

I appreciate reading your journal today and the receiving of this letter... again, the perfect right time when \"your\" heart needed a boost.
