This is a jump from my writings about the whole process of the events leading up to Sarah's death, but it just goes to show that even in the midst of all the tragedy there are funny moments.
When we knew that Sarah was going to die, I knew that I was going to have to be the one to write Sarah's obituary. I sat down with Ryan and asked how I should refer to him in the article. He and Sarah had been together for three years and had been living together for the last two. He was more than a boyfriend, not officially a fiance. We didn't like the terms life partner, special friend or companion. Someone suggested that we just use the term "her beloved". I had to veto that because I said that I was already using that for her cats. Everyone found it quite funny that he had to play second fiddle to the cats.
In the end I came up with the term "her best friend and life's love" which described their relationship perfectly.
