As soon as they got to the emergency room, Sarah was taken into an exam room. Ryan was not allowed to be with her.
This is where it gets very confusing. Sarah was left alone in the room. We don't know for how long. What we do know is that at some point she vomited and apparently aspirated some of the vomitus. She went into cardiac and respiratory arrest. They had to use the paddles to resuscitate her heart plus she had to be intubated and hooked up to a ventilator. It took several attempts to get the tube in because her trachea was so tight.
Sarah had been deprived of oxygen for enough time to cause severe brain damage. They transferred her to the intensive care unit and could not give her any medication at that time because they were assessing her condition and did not want to mask any of the symptoms. Ryan was now able to be with her and was holding her hand for the next 4 hours. Unfortunately, because of the brain injury, she was having seizures at the rate of one every thirty seconds to one minute. That poor boy had to witness the woman he loved going through this hell. This is what we knew when we got into our car and made the 5 hour trip to Minneapolis from our home in Wisconsin. The entire drive all we could think of was how this was all a horrible mistake and that it was only a matter of time until Sarah began to recover.

I hear, and feel, the pain of this retelling. I\'m so very, very sorry. Hugs from my heart to yours, Teri.
Sarah is only a heartbeat away!! I know this pain all to well as I wish my brother pass on. They live in peace as we struggle on. One day we will be reunited. My heart and praayers go out to you. My strength and faith guide you through this trying time!
I am so sorry for your loss. I have found such strength from these wonderful women. We walk this horrific walk hand in hand. Simply there for one another. Wendy
I can\'t imagine what you went through, I really can\'t...even though I was in a similar situation. I know my mom couldn\'t bear to see me even cry, let alone get hurt. It will be a difficult journey for you, but as the only child of a mother who was my best friend, I can tell you that I have put myself in Sarah\'s situation a million times and tried to find out what would I have wanted for my mom. I could only find myself wanting the world for her, I would want her to live her life and be happy. It\'s easier said than done, but Sarah would want the same for her mom.
I wish I could take your pain away...take care sweetheart...
Thank you for sharing part of Sarah\'s story with us - I know it could not have been easy. Would love to hear more about the person sarah was, whenever you feel up to it. I am here for you....Hugs, Ann
I found, especially in the first three or four months, when the pain was still so new and raw, that telling and re-telling Corrie\'s story helped a lot. You have found a safe haven to tell your story, share your feelings, vent and cry.
My heart breaks for the loss of your sweet Sarah. She has an amazing boyfriend who never left her side. Wow.
Sending my love, tight hugs, and thoughts of peace to you ~ Debbie
I bless Ryan for having the presence of mind to get Sarah to a hospital--so many of our kids never made it to hospitals. I agree with Debbie that the more you tell Sarah\'s story, the easier you will come to terms with the situation. I am so sorry for your loss. Hugs, Cherie
