Day 6
I have officially gone 6 full days with zero gluten in my diet. It feels really great to be working on my health on my own terms. My regular doctor thinks I'm crazy... BUT I'm trying it anyway. I read it in a book, that has helped me get through 2 weeks, this can help me get through two more weeks until my appt with the Endo... That's the goal... Then my sister comes for a visit the day after that... TWO WEEKS, just TWO WEEKS. Why does that feel like forever?

I have Hashimoto\'s hypothyrodism and dry eyes too. A few years ago, I did a gluten-free no sugar diet. I read somewhere that autoimmune diseases are associated with gluten intolerance and that people with hypothyrodism need to eat more protein. I ate only protein and veggies and I must say that I felt good. I lost weight and my muscle tone improved. The first few weeks were HELL. I kept it up strict for six months and more or less for a year and half after then slowly slid back to a \'normal\' diet. I am trying to do it again because I really felt so much better. My will power isn\'t what it used to be though. Mary J. Shomon has good books for people with hypothyrodism like The Thyroid Diet. Good luck with it.
Thanks! Yeah I\'ve officially been GF for 9 days! woohoo! I don\'t eat a lot of bread, but bagels I\'m sad about and going out or being with friends has been hard, but latley since I\'ve been so depressed I haven\'t been going out much anyway, so thats made it easier I think. It is nice to know that you felt better on it! That gives me extra hope to keep going. I really feel tired of feeling so terrible all of the time and it seems like if I can do something to help that, it is just silly not to. I feel like giving up gluten is totally worth feeling better about myself and my health. I just wish my doctors felt the same way. I\'m worried about getting enough fiber and the other vitamins they say you might have trouble with, like the B\'s.
