Before MS I was very physically active, big into sports.  At the time of my first attack, I was fit.  A typical day for me started at 5 am - go to gym with personal trainer.  8 am - Work, did organic landscaping, tended horses.  7 pm - Teach Tai Kwon Do class, beginners to brown belt, self defense for women.  8:30 pm - Brown/Black Belt class, for me!  11 pm - Go to bed, get up tomorrow and do it all again!  Throw in Mtn biking, Road bike racing (USCF Cat 3) Backpacking, Bouldering and Softball".  I was 6' 2" and  230 lbs.  After MS I couldn't continue going on this scedule and over a period of 10 - 12 years I dropped out of all my activities including being an instructor in martial arts, lost muscle mass and got down to 180 lbs.  My goal now is to fight this monster called MS with every bit of energy left in me.  I will not give in to it!  I will not retreat! My goal right now is to get back to at least 205 lbs by hitting the gym 3-4 days per week and eating healthy foods.  I am already 197 lbs since starting a workout routine last summer.

I know how you feel. I used to run every day and go to the gym daily as well. Now, I am lucky when I can get to the bathroom without using my cane! It does get frustrating. But I figure at least I\'m still walking and hell I\'m here! Wishing you luck with your goal! Hugs, M

I wish I would have been in better shape before I got my diagnosis, maybe I would have a little more drive to get into better shape now! I love reading your journal, maybe someday mine will have a little \"work out\" section in it too! Take care. Kim

That\'s the way! Don\'t give up, don\'t surrender! You have an incredibly strong base to build on, and I have no doubt that you will achieve your goal despite of the extra challenge of MS.

Good for you! I know exactly what you mean about changing activity wise. I have always been a very hard worker. Manual hard man\'s work! I can SEE myself losing my muscle tone. You are inspiring me to hit the weights. Thank you!!!
