whew. Some days I love my job. The Assembly Committe (the art teacher, PE teacher, librarian and yours truly) plans all-school events around various themes - usually with the goal of community-building as part of the experience. Well. Tonight we had Open House, and we started th eventing wtih all 425 children - AND their families - in the gym.  Every grade level did a dance from around the world... every child made a self-portrait that was hung somewhere in the school... every child sang Free to Be You and Me... and the whole audience sang and signed along on a gospel-sounding tune called Shine On Me that was led by the 5th grade chorus. The program ended with a poem by Susan Liotta: A song, they say, lifts your heart,And a dance, they say, sets your spirit free.If a song and a dance can bring such joy,Come, sing and dance with me! It was an amazing event.  My heart is full.
