Halloween Gems:Best costume: First Grader dressed as a Lego. Homemade!Eye-roller: Fourth Grader dressed as a nerd. Plaid shirt, glasses, corduroys, bow tie, pocket protector, sign taped to his back "throw a rock at me". The eye-roller is that that's how *I* used to dress when I was his age.Cutest: Second Grade Teacher on Maternity Leave carrying baby in something white and fuzzy. Looked like a marshmallow! Most Frequently Asked Question: "What are you?"Most Frequently Given Answer (by me): "Scary music teacher."  Last year I wore pajamas, taped a quarter-note rest to my head and told everyone I was "resting."  The year before that I wore a T-shirt with the Solar System on it because my parents call me "Sun."  The year before that I carried a kazoo and a steering wheel, yes, I was a Hummer. Didn't have time to think what to be this year, just wore black and orange, got a big kick out of the teaching assistant who told me about a male friend of hers. Apparently he superglued Marshmallow Peeps all over his clothing. Yup. Chick-magnet. Wish I'd thought of that!Fifth Grade Girl: "Want me to tell your fortune? You have to ask a yes/no question."  Me: "Sure. Will I be rich?"Fifth Grade Girl (consulting magic orb, whacking it several times): "No. Sorry!"Later on a classmate of hers, dressed like the Monopoly Guy, was handing out play money. He gave me a $1,000 bill. I went to find Fifth Grade Girl: "Look! You need to get your crystal ball fixed!"Fourth Grade Boy (who overheard all this) on re-entering the building after the Big Parade around the school grounds: "Aagh! It's the rich scary music teacher!"Sweetest moment: Fourth Grade Girl. "I'd rather not be in the parade. I don't celebrate Halloween."Me: "We do have an alternate activity - go tell your teacher, she'll let you go."Fourth Grade Girl: "But I don't want to disappoint my reading buddy."  (Classes are paired older/younger and children read to each other. Reading buddies also meet up for some other activities.)Funniest small child moment of the week: 5-year-old is leaving his cello lesson, he's singing. "The older you get, the more you forget."  Mother looks at him. "Why do you forget things sometimes?"  Pause. "My brain's smaller than yours."Happy Halloween!
