TG (goodness) IF

So far not too overwhelmed, but it's early yet.  Full impact of the new school year doesn't hit until October.  I'm taking on private cello students this year (really need the income).  Don't know how many will sign up on the registration night; instruction begins the week of the 24th.  Haven't had to do it in a while, it does eat into my after school organizing time (the kids go home at three; I'm frequently working another 3 - 5 hours after they leave).  It'll just have to happen on the weekends now.

Maybe this is the year I learn how not to be ADD?  smiley-tongue-out.gif

Hubby was looking over my shoulder a few minutes ago when my profile was on the screen.

"You forgot artist.  Remember that self-portrait?  You're a teacher, a cellist, a bodybuilder, a cyclist, a cook, a writer, you... (here he mentioned a skill that I am NOT going to share with yousmiley-sealed.gif)!  What's left for you to master?"

Bless him!

Sigh - but I don't feel like I've MASTERED anything.  Gotten good at, well sure, but mastered?  Played at, tried out, experimented with, yeah.  I've frequently commented to friends about what it's like to work for the affluent suburb that employs me: "I'm a 70-watt bulb.  Almost, but not quite, bright enough."

I suppose it boils down to "is 'good enough' good enough ?"

::singing in my best Bing Crosby::

Would you like to swing on a star
carry moonbeams home in a jar
and be better off than you are
or would you rather be a mule

A mule is an animal with long funny ears
he kicks up at anything he hears
His back is brawny but his brain is weak
he's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak
and by the way if you hate to go to school
You may grow up to be a mule

Oh would you like to swing on a star
carry moonbeams home in a jar
and be better off than you are
or would you rather be a pig

A pig is an animal with dirt on his face
his shoes are a terrible disgrace
He has no manners when he eats his food
He's fat and lazy and extremely rude
But if you don't care a feather or a fig
you may grow up to be a pig

Oh would you like to swing on a star
carry moonbeams home in a jar
and be better off than you are
or would you rather be a fish

A fish won't do anything but swim in a brook
he can't write his name or read a book
to fool the people is his only thought
and though he's slippery he still gets caught
but if then that sort of life is what you wish
you may grow up to be a fish
(music)
a new kind of jumped up slippery fish

And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo
everyday you see quite a few
so you see it's all up to you,
you could be better than you are
you could be swinging on a star

Yesterday I went to an art opening and saw a magnet that said:
Shoot for the moon. If you fail, at least you will end up among the stars.

This is another song that reminds me of how exhausted I feel when I\'m wondering if I\'m good enough:

Spend all your time waiting for that second chance
For the break that will make it OK
There\'s always some reason to feel not good enough
And it\'s hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction or a beautiful release
Memories seep from my veins
Let me be empty and weightless and maybe
I\'ll find some peace tonight

In the arms of the Angel far away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
You\'re in the arms of the Angel; may you find some comfort here

Your hubby sounds wonderful. Perhaps not quite so wonderful as mine ;) but wonderful nonetheless.

I\'m feeling a bit ADD when it comes to \"mastering\" things as well. As an undergrad I majored in art and pscyh, with minors in math and creative writing...focus, Lari, focus! :o)

Must be nice to have someone who thinks you\'re great at everything (and from what I\'ve read you do appreciate him a lot).

I think this is a problem with our society, TV brings \"superstars\" into our homes that we don\'t appreciate the good or even the very good. We come to expect everything to be spectacular. Friedman calls us a \"People of constant novalty.\"

My therapist gets on my case because I get frustrated when I can\'t preach a \"home run\" sermon. He reminds me that the team does not win because of the home runs, they win because people get on base. Often a base hit is all that is needed. Don\'t be too hard on yourself because you feel you can\'t always hit a home run, Shaquile O\'Neil only made one 3-point shot in the 20th century. (I know, I am mixing sports, but I hope you get the picture.)
