WTF
First of all excuse my grammar, I failed miserable in school on this subject and haven't improved much. I started a new job on April 15 working night shifts in a much drier climate; it was more windy and dusty than I’m use to. A couple of weeks later I got an upper respiratory infection, but was expecting it since almost everyone gets it. This lasted till about the May 10 '09 when I "felt" I was over it, I was feeling more energetic, sinuses clearing up, and coughing almost gone. Less than 24 hours later: · 11 May--dinner time; a very tiny area on the tip of my upper lip was numb, can't whistle...odd; feels like numbness experienced from novacaine @ the dentist. · 12 may 0500L – I feel the numbness spreading to rest of mouth, but mostly in the lips, again like the novacaine was taking effect. · Looked over by med tech @ 0900 after getting off work. He sees signs of bacteria infection (red streaks in my outer ear); gives me 5 day anti bacteria meds. · I wake up about 1600; I go see my doc to update him on what the med tech found, but notice the major of my right face affected by numbness to some degree. · The head doc happens to be visiting; since my doc was busy with other patients he evaluated me; I couldn't keep my right eye close when the doc held my eyelids open lightly!! He diagnosed me with bells palsy http://www.webmd.com/brain/tc/bells-palsy-topic-overview · A few days I had a cotton patch over my right eye w/ ointment I had to apply to the eye! I also incrementally got physically weaker, but when I had the strength to sit in a chair I played on the PC; my hands resting on the edge of the desk (this is important for later). · Given doc notes for over two weeks (48hrs @ a time) w/ anti virus pills & steroids (normal treatment for viral Bells Palsy), but with no improvements. A few days later I developed a mild rash on most of my back!! Finally I hit rock bottom when I was bedridden about 18 hrs due to severe physical weakness. Thank God I live down the block from the doc's office; I struggled to his office after feeling stronger and gave him an update. · I was sent to the hospital to see a neurologist for outpatient eval since I didn't have any improvement and still VERY WEAK, sleeping 11-13 hrs daily. · Spent next several days getting a battery of exams (including an MRI with contrast chemical), follow up appts, optometrist appt, dermatologist appt, and more meds. to be continued...
