WHY CAN'T I MAKE FRIENDS!!? My ATHEISTIC YouTube "friend" responded to me in sort of a nasty way.
Well, we only emailed a few times back n forth, so I hardly could call him a "friend" really, but it would have been nice to make friends and chat with people from other sites...since DS is the only one I'm on and all, well, I thought I could reach out on other places
, you know? Have friends there and all
....but after getting this email I don't know if I'd want to be friends with him anyway...besides I don't think I can deal with his views on life very well. It was kinda depressin...
Wonder if I should respond to this one or not?...probably not since he ended it with "good riddance" I should probably take the hint...well, I like being on DS more better anyway so forget about them others!! Don't need no ones anyways!! hmmm, well I guess I'll let you guys read what he wrote to me this time...
Here it is:
To address your questions as simply as possible since there is alot to cover:
I was a Christian for 18 years of my life. It was offered as a way out of HELL and Damnation, so like any terrified child I took it.
I never experienced a real god of any kind, only emotional highs and lows which swiftly abated. I never felt guilt outside of fear of god.
TO make a long story short, god brought me a lifetime of HELL and fear, and at the end of the day, I could not say I felt his presence although other Christians told me countless times god was with me and wanted a relationship with me.
Then I found an answer to my endless questions and doubts. In the Gospels Thomas doubted the existence of Jesus and asked for physical evidence, and he recieved it.
God is always seeking us I was told, so I laid my soul bare and prayed for the god of the universe to give me a tiny shred of evidence he existed. I waited. And waited. And waited. For years.
When I approached my pastors concerning my dilemma, they told me "Faith comes from lack of evidence" and "God does not prove himself to anyone". When I mentioned Thomas, I was stared at dumbly.
Different rules for different folks I guess.
Science answered my questions for me about everything I could see in the natural world. Evolution was a fact which I could see and study. A 4 billion year old earth which formed from molten rock was proven out by what I could study and verify with my own senses and rational thought.
The universe is an amazing place, and life is a beautiful thing which should not be squandered in fear and slavery to a blind uncaring god who will torture you for all eternity for simply not loving him enough. If god existed, which I have not received my "Thomas" on.
In response to your other comment about pulling negative aspects out of god and not the positive ones, let me ask you a question.
If your parents bought you candy and showered you with affection, but burned you for years with a torch for simply not listenin to them, would you take into adulthood memory the nice things they did and forget the evil? Would they be considered good parents?
We lock people up for this kind of behavior and take their children away from them. We are more moral than the god of the bible who killed 32.9 million people in the old testament and kills 2 billion more at the End of Days in Revelations.
We are better than our Creator, yet we are labeled Sinners.
God can go to hell for all I care. If he was real, I would not worship him anyway. Thankfully he is not. He is very human because he was created by humans. We wrote his holy book and edited it time and time again to suit our agendas. God is manmade and we need to consider him as we do all myths of the ancient world such as Zeus, Arthena, Ashura, Odin, Thor, Hercules, and the Easter Bunny. Good riddance.

I think making friends is just something that happens. Personally I just be myself and if people like me.. they like me.. if not.. oh well. With that said I am pretty careful with the people I do let into my life and my circle. Don\'t lower your standards for someone who is subpar. You know what you like and don\'t like.. stick with that. As far as your friend... he sounds troubled. He might be someone you want to share your faith with but not someone you want to lean on. Keep praying for Christian friends. You\'ve got a friend in me and you\'re never alone!
I agree with littleone above...I\'ve been both places with faith, and I can tell u my miracles...love yourself, don\'t lower your standards..he is definitely subpar in my book. \"Good riddance\" says it all. Wish him well in your prayers and leave it at that.
to be completely honest, after i read the email this man sent you, I was bothered. Not necessarily with his words, although i dont agree, but with his \"tone\" in the email to you. I did not like the way he talked to you, i think it is just fine to have your opinion. When you present your opinion to others, it should not be in a way to make others feel small.. i just felt like he was sayin \"Im right and you are wrong\" that is not what an opinion is.
I have just read through his letter and I dont have a problem with his tone or content, whether I agree with it or not, I dont think he is being unfriendly to you but just carrying on with an intellecutal discourse. If you are want to carry on then enjoy it for what it is.
The problem with this \'Debate\' is that NO ONE knows the answer, the truth OR the end result.
Whilst the discussion may be mentally stimulating, it is pointless.
What began as \'Discussion\' has resulted in countless wars and the undeniable death of billions.
i think by good riddance, he isn\'t referring to you, but he is referring to various gods and the easter bunny. ^_^;
i wonder how future discussions went, if they happened?
