My story shared today. Went to my home group this morning and a new member was there and shared his story. He was short and to the point since it really doesn't matter how we get there. He doesn't have a dollar to his name, his family no longer will put up with his shit so he is homeless, jobless just like myself when I came in. I was asked to share and told him we all get here differently its like being on a elevator some get off at different floors and some like him and I had to go to the basement. I shared I was hopeless like him but I found a lttle hope and discovered I was not alone and that got me to my next meeting. After the meeting be came up to me and thanked me for sharing and I seen the emptyness in his eyes and told him the same think i shared during the meeting and he broke down. I gave him my phone number even though I put in the meeting book that was past around for him earlier. Will he call me or someone else or show up to another meeting I don't have a clue but the seed was planted I was humbled and I'm sure he doesn't even know how he helped me today. This shit kills on daily basis. One has to wonder why some get it an others doesn't.

I enjoyed reading this. I guess I really need to hear about the beginning. It helps me realize we all start somewhere.
G, I am still in contact with the lady who held her hand out to me at my first meeting and I have thanked her many times. Her words to me \'your sobriety is the only thanks I need\'. That is humbling for me.
Thanks for sharing your experience, strength and hope x
Yes, isn\'t it wonderful how we are all connected and how GOD puts certain people in our paths? I never neglect to thank GOD for my sobriety and I can honestly say, I don\'t feel judgement towards those who do not seem to get it. Wasn\'t that long ago that I could say that was I!
BE WELL.
I can so relate to the emptiness in the eyes I am starting a womens treatment center on tuesday in galveston and I am anxious and scared but ready for a soulution. love you guys
Loved this and I to can relate a lot of how I felt when I felt empty and that emptiness in my eyes Im 2 years tomorrow and have been thinking lots this week of just how I was when I entered my first AA meeting drunk great journal made me think lots
One of the most meaningful shares I ever had with another alcoholic happened about seven years ago. A homeless man who was still active in his addiction came into the meeting and was moved to tears by the sharing. He came up to me and a couple of other AA\'s at the end and we tried to tell him there was hope for him. Tears welled up in his beautiful blue eyes and he said, \"But I can\'t quit. I can\'t. I\'m afraid I\'m going to die. Please don\'t let me die. I want to live. Don\'t let me die.\" He took my hand and beseeched me to save him, and I couldn\'t. All I could say was that AA works and if he kept coming to meetings, worked an honest program with a sponsor and didn\'t pick up that first drink, he would be OK. I could tell he didn\'t believe me. So, he left, and I heard that he died that night of exposure, drunk on a park bench. It was below freezing in the winter time. He could have found shelter, but chose the drink over the shelter and probably passed out.
I think of that man every day, that nameless man who died alone and in his disease...and he helps keep me sober from the grave. I wish I knew his name.
You know...I think I\'m going to copy and paste that and share it in aafriends, too.
bato, thanks for your share. its story\'s like this that makes your wonder sometimes why some make it and others do not.
Recovery is truly a gift.

Great journal, bro
great journal and share thanks for this it almost brought tears to my eyes.
Bato that was truly a moving story. It brought tears to my eyes. That could have been any one of us but thanks to certain people and a higher power, yes gjm,I of all people said \"higher power\" lol., some of us are very fortunate to be where we are at this moment. I know I am. I see life in a different light now than I did 2 years ago. It isnt without it\'s ups and downs but I am thankful I am not using alcohol to cope.
Thanks so much for sharing and a special thanks to G. He was my helping hand and a thousand thank yours could never be enough to give back the kind of help he gave me. Big hugs gjm.......
beautiful journal and ty for the reminder; But for the grace of God there go I!! I have had times in my life where I was terrified I would die w/the alchohol or without it; was so ambivilant; and couldn\'t foresee going 1 day without it; I know now I can make and compile some sobriety; I have had up to 1 day away from five yrs. and relasped so yes; once the ball starts rolling ; the addiction its difficult to forgive self; and the wreckage we make and harm to self and others; God Rest this mans soul; for he was what the big book speaks of ; needing to get the honesty part of the program in all parts of our lives; even if it means detox is better than a park bench dying from exposure:( ty for this post ; I needed to read this tonite; and thank God; I am alive; my family is now talking to me; I have a home; some money; and a liscense and a car. so no excuses not to get out to meetings although I do issolate alot still. hugs to all of you; and again ty for this;) God Bless; Hopeful lady:)
ps...planting the seed; is so important ; I will never forget my first meeting yrs. ago; and the woman that welcomed me; and gave me her phone number and said keep coming back ; yes it works; if we choose daily for another day of serenity and sobriety; I need to pray more and think less:) hugs to all of you:)
