Just a thought-- Detachment means " freedom from emotions " Letting someone else's behavior determine how we feel at every turn is irresponsible.  Our emotions should be determinded by us, not by someone else.  But no doubt we have spent years confusing the boundaries that seperate us from other people.  Whether at work or at home, we have too  often let someone else's insantiy affect how we behave and how we feel. At first, it may seem insensitive not to react to others problems or negative behavior.  We may fear  they'll think we simply don't care about them.  Learning that it is far more caring to let other people handle their own lives takes time and patients.  But with practice, it will begin to feel comfortable, in fact in time it will feel freeing. What I have learned living the 12 steps I can not control anyone else's actions but my own.  For that I  strive  not to let people play rent free in my head. until next time...

I think what you have said is wise, but I also think it is a little bit more difficult to detach, when you are a mother. Ironically, my daughter is also a recovering alcoholic and actively involved in AA. I would think coming from that perspective, she would be more forgiving and KNOW not to take other people\'s inventory. I am raising my coffee to you, to toast you!!
