My Story

Hi :) my name is Tysie, and I am 32 years of age. This is just a story of how I was diagnoised with MG... Im not sure of the entire story but this is what I do remember.. I was like 2 and a half years of age when I was diagnoised with MG. Im not sure when my mother noticed something wrong with me like what age I was but I just know that my lids drooped, they drooped so much to a point I had to use my fingers to pull my lids up in order to see t.v. or things of that matter. Life for me was hard. I was about 9 years of age I can remember children in school teasing me and calling me blind and things of that nature. I didn't want to go back to school but my mother mad me. I had thoughts of suicide but I could never do anything like that. I just wanted to be normal like everyone else. When I was 10 years old or 12 I had a muscle test done where they hook you up to this computer type thing and they send shocks through your body to check your muscles and it didn't hurt but it was truly a wierd experience to have this lil shock sensations coming through you at any given moment, but after that life went on. Then around the age of 17 I got pregnant which was a big deal, more than I realized at the time. Because some thing that  alot of people don't know when having this it is not all that safe to get pregnant for if you have upper and lower MG than it can be hard for you to push when it is time to deliver your child of which I didn't know and neither did my mother... So when it came time for me to deliver my child I couldn't push, being that my muscle were already weak on top of that I had an epidural which made me much weaker and I just wanted to sleep so in turn once my water bag had been broken ( I went in at 8mths) the head nurse had to come and push down on the top of my stomach when I felt pressure in order to get my son out of my womb and after about three pushes on my stomach he came out yet he wasn't crying, he had swollowed some maconium which means he had a bowel movement and swallowed some of it and caused his left lung to collapse he was trying to cry but nothing was coming out. He spent a month  in the Oschner's Hospitals in New Orleans...I was pregnant a second time but due to scared tubes I had to have an abortion shot or I would have died...I have no desire to get pregnant again I can't deal with the pain of losing another child or bringing one into this world that I can't interact with physically..Back to my MG Once I had my son and things were fine.. When he was about a year old I decided to have what is called (by me of course) "Sling Surgery" this surgery took place at LSU hospital in New Orleans. It was suppose to help keep my eyes open. They put in this rubber band type of thing  that was stitched to the eyebrow muscle so that when I was raise my eyebrows my eyelids would indeed come up and so far that surgery is working wonderfully. Granted my right eye is still somewhat droopy its not something that the common person would be able to noticed unless I told them. My eyes were swollen for  a while I couldn't close them completely until the swellen went down but it was the best surgery I can say that I have had for my MG I can now see and look somewhat normal to others.Later on in my life, while being a teen mother. My life seemed somewhat normal until I started to have trouble with my mouth when it came to talking I would slipp and bite my tongue cause my words weren't coming out right my mouth started to jerk a little in the corner and Im not sure if that was from the MG but at that time in my life that is the only serious illness I had that I was having complications with. I started to experience the crossing of my eyes or at least my right eye and I of course was feeling extremely tired all the time and with me having MG and also having Hypo thyroidism I couldn't really tell which was causing me to feel so tired but as time went on my doctor's informed me about the Thymectomy surgery and that I should consider having this done. I wasn't to fond of it when they first told me about it but when I turned 25 I made up in my mind to go ahead and have it done. Now that I am 32 years of age I dont have any "serious" problems with my MG but I do still noitce things about my MG that are still there like not being able to run, I can't ride a bike for long periods of time if I try to ride my exercise bike i have to sit up on it for a few minutes before I get off for if I don't do this when I stand up I won't feel my legs they will be completely numb and one of two things will happen. 1. I won't be able to move out of that spot, or 2. I will fall from the weakness and numbness in my legs...I also get tired fast still but that is a combination of things including my MG I have thyroid disease, asthma, and I am somewhat overwieght which doesn't help alot at all...Now, today October 26, 2009 I can say that I am doing "ok"  but I still have my bad days. lately I have only wanted to lay around my home due to my Graves Disease it has my eyes bulging out of the socket the right eye more than the left and well I just kind of stay inside to prevent it from getting aggrivated by the wind or bright sunlight...My life has been spent indoors unless I have some where to go as far as paying bills or making groceries.. I want to get my license but with the MG and the Graves Disease Im kind of scared that my eyes will go cross on my while Im driving and I will wreck and hurt myself of someone else...that I couldn't live with...Thanks to all for reading my journal if you did... if you have any questions please feel free to ask I am here to answer any questions anyone has to ask...Tootles :)
