good news

Hi everyone, so I have happy news to share. Baby Isabella is not out of mummy's tummy yet so that's good. Christina's due date is 2/9 so she's coming. But this news is entirely different.
My son Eddie as all of you know was my only child. I am so missing being able to "mother" someone.  I do guide my grandchildren, but its different. They have a mom. My son had a dear friend named Donna who he had been friends with for 10 years prior to his passing. Nothing romantic-just good friends. Donna's mom passed almost 6 years ago from cancer. She was only 55. Ed was a huge support to Donna through the 2 year ordeal of her mom's illness and subsequent passing. I had become close to Donna during that period too. Donna has 2 sons. One is 14 and the other is her son from her current marriage - he is 2. When Eddie passed Donna asked me if I'd like to be an adoptive Grammy to her boys and I accepted - happily. Since Ed's passing I have gotten close to the boys as I take being a Grammy very seriously. I had asked Josh & Christina if they would be willing to share me with Donna's boys & they said that it was a great idea. They know how much Donna  & her older son miss her mom. Donna & I went out to lunch the other day and we talked about how having each other in our lives doesn't replace Ed or her mom, but we help fill a void in each other's lives. I said, "Well, why don't I just adopt you as well?" (actually Ken & I had been talking about ways we can make Donna feel more a part of her family. She has never had a Dad in her life). Anyway, Donna burst into tears and said she couldn't ask for anyone better to be her second mom! (then I cried!). Donna then told me that about a week ago she had said to her husband that she sort of wished I could adopt her too so we'd really be a family. I know that she has come to think of me in that way. She calls me for advice regarding her boys and other things and we talk or text daily and visit often and on holidays we get together. She is an adult, clearly, but I think we all feel the need to belong. I think we will have some kind of ceremony - hmmm, maybe I'll ask ourr minister to bless our new family.
I know no one can replace her sweet mom Theresa and no one can replace my beloved Eddie, but I do not know how to not to be a mom and Donna misses someone being in that role. Her 2 boys, Kyle and Walter are very special and her hubby is great. He is a wonderful Dad to Walter his son and also a great Dad to Kyle his stepson. He's so good with the baby I call him Superdada! In fact when Donna went home to tell him that we are a new family he asked, "whose going to adopt me?" I told him he gets a MIL and a FIL. He said, "great!
Ken & I are also considering taking classes to be licensed to adopt in Massachusetts. I had always wanted to adopt an older child since they are so hard to place and I have worked with troubled youth before so I feel I could handle a teen who has been through a lot. The irony of it is that I talked to Eddie the summer before he passed about wanting to foster or adopt a teen. He said, "Mom, do it!". So I know Eddie approves and that means a lot.
So my family is growing with the new additions of Chrsitina's baby coming soon & Donna & her children.
Thank you God for my close relationship with Donna.
Thank you, Eddie. You have given me so many gifts while you walked this earth and so many since you went to Heaven too. I nver would have met Donna if not for you, so thank you. I love you so much and miss you every minute. xoxo Mom
Love you all. I wish you a peaceful day.
