To all my friends;
I'm sorry I'm so behind on reading your journals.
I'm trying to adjust through the fogg this Moanin...Life throws more curve balls than it do ones right over the plate sort of speak. Yeah I love to play baseball... never was wortht a darn but it how ya play the game... I gave it my all in my younger years.
Younger years lol.. way back when, a visit to grandma and grandpa meant a weekend inthe sticks... drawin water from a well and usin an outhouse for the batroom... just like home eh... well some of us still remember them number two wash tubs... rub boards, and wood burnin stoves... six cent Cokes, and 2 cents candy bars...
I remember peddlers... yeah, kinda a department store on a wagon or back of an old truck... come drivin through sellin folks different things pans, tea pots. all kinds of goodies.. like mirrors..
Yeppers once grandpa was home alone cause grandma done gone off to sell the eggs to the neighbors... that being a mile or two up the road. This peddler came through, and grandpa seen this mirror for the first time in his life.. he looked into it and there was a picture of his old papa... He just had to have it... so he went and snuck some money outta the flour tin.
He took the mirror to the barn and hide it cause he knew grandma was gonna be tad bit ticked he bought that picture of his old papa...
grandma came home and busied her self with the usual, only she noticed that grandpa would run to the barn now and then, and come back all smilin and happy... That dang old fool looks too dang happy she thought... so she watches him a few times and decides to follow him out ands see what is is he's up too...
Just after supper she see's him go off to the barn so she sneaks out there, and see's him digg something outta the hay... He looks at it a while and hides it again and leaves smilin and all happy with himself...
She goes over to the hay pile and diggs around untill she finds the mirror, and she takes a look at it and she exclaims...
SO THIS IT THE HUSSY HE BEEN RUNNIN AROUND WITH....
yeah them peddlers.. brings a smile to my face sometimes just thinkin about it lol...
There a few places life is still simple, I drove thru one the other day... folks usin horses instead of cars and tractors... Kids workin alongside dad..out in the fields...It looks so strange watchin these folks struggle with the hard ships of doing it yourself without the machines and the gadets most of us can't live without...
Maybe they are closer to God and earth than we are... I have to wonder If we are in to big of a rush these days to get now where in a hurry...
We spend all our lifes working and buildin and for what... some die rich... none of us can take it with us when we go... only difference is the degree of comfort we have in out senior years...
Oh well ten fifteen years from now... I probably wont be worring about it no way...
So thank you for this day... one day at a time... the pain reminds me I am alive... and my son reminds me why I hang on each day... I'm so proud of him... he really is a good kid...
Best wishes Russ
