Well any who I was remembering spendin a weekend at my grandpa's when I was little... this grandpa lived out in the sticks of Mississippi... they had chickens and hogs...a still back in the woods... oooops...and a old jeep that the front set was not bolted down...
Come way early saturday mornin I hear that old rooster start his Cocka-doodle-doo.... Cocka-doodle-BOOM!!!! BAW CAW!!!
then I hear a shut the #%$#@ Up... from grandpa's room... he aint in a good mood this moanin...
He disappeared after breakfast...
Later I hear one them pigs squeal real loud, and see my dad leanin on the fence kinda chucklin to himself so I go over and there was grandpa grumblin to himself kickin dirt clods all over the barn yard... and a pig or two ifins one got close enuff...
Then I see the old rooster keepin a real close eye on grandpappy cause that shotgun done scared the poop rite out of that old bird.. heck i reckon he almost laid an egg when grandpa took a shot at him that mornin...
My aunt that be my momma sister... she was about 12-14 i reckon, said that rooster didn't crow all week...
I remember askin dad wat was wrong with grandpa... dad said he just don't feel too good part of growin old i reckon...
Hey I'm with ya pappy... that was back in the fifties... last time I saw grandpappy... untill 1981 he was 90 years old then... and still kickin and screamin in 1987 when I went back to Texas ..
I'm feelin pappy this moanin...
boy we was dirt poor, didn't have a tv, or lots of things we have today... heck our bathroom was an outhouse... and we took baths in a number 2 washtub... once a week whether we needed it or not...
We had to draw water from a well, and sometimes we got lucky and had a pump in the house... wow indoor plumbin, had to prime that old hand pump everytime a wanted a drink... didn't use no glass back then either... had a lattle....
I found some old pictures of us in Mississippi.. gonna put couple of em on disc so I can share em with all ya'll... We lived out on the delta... surrounded by farmland... cotton and soybean, lots of mice and rats....
That year was the second time I ever saw my real mom, lol thats how we got the pictures lol... we didn't have no camera...but mom's family did... brand new Chysler too... yeppp... they bought me and my brother toys and showered us with love.... while my half brothers and sister looked on without... glad they were too little to remember... fact is I pushed the memory out of my mind for years... I always remembered the place we lived, cause my brother got yellow fever and missed a year of school...and then there was the rat...
Oh yeah.. lots of mice and rats.. my brother was bad about eatin sugar outta the can... mom kept all the flower and suger in cans.. wonder why... but my bro... would get up after everyone went to sleep and get into the sugar... well it told on him one nite... he came to bed with sugar all over his face and hands... and the mice started lickin that sugar... well a big old rat decided to get in on the goodies and got excited and bit my brother on the nose...
All hail broke loose then... and my Brother was a screamin and crying and my Dad he was havin a harmonal pluss, so was my mom... It was wild....mice and rats runnin and humans runnin and screamin and I had no idea what the heck had just happen, till mom came and checked me to see ifins I had gottin bit... nope no bites... why... cause I didn't get in the sugar gee... nawe not me... I aint gettin outta bed after the lites go out lol..
They made my dad take my brother to get shots for rabies... my brother didn't like that... he got a bunch of shots... my brother said they gave him the shot rite in his belly... gee... was that fun...???
Well I rambled on about my childhood, cause least I aint whinnin about how sorry I feel. Secondly cause I know both side of the track... My daddy was poor, but he was rich in love... maybe he was just a simple man, didn't look for all the answers to what he didn't understand... but he was there... he didn't run off and give up... he only had a third grade education, couldn't even rread or write... that didn't help when it came to findin a job or gettin a raise... he worked on the family farm for years with his dad and brother, sisters... then he went to work for a moble home builders... worked there 30 something years... most he ever made was 3.25 an hour... he was a good worker, but since he couldn't read they past him over for raises... then he got a good job for 15.00 an hour for several years... that carried him thru till he past away... Yepp he's gone my dad... died in his own back yard... No one told me untill three years later... bye dad miss ya... love ya... you was the best... always... DEAN...

Experiencing a past of hard knocks I think builds charracter and strength in a person. It teaches us our to survive better because we know how to make a dollar stretch.Dont mind cooking a pot of beans and know how to do with less.
Its the people who never had to learn how that would have a nervous breakdown,if hard timed fell on them.
We know how to appreciate what we get and we dont tend to take luxurys for granted.
Simple is beautiful theres something very special about simple.
