Some how all them chickens know which one ya pick... and they just stand there and stare at ya waitin for ya to make ya move..
The one ys pick cuts to the left cause you made a move to the right... smart ask chicken.. takes off runnin ...could swear I hear him holloring baw off baw off....
I figure since this old ruster missin most his feathers and got a bum legg he's prime skillet canidate... Yummmmy..Then the dump old thang finds a hole in the chicken coup that weren't there bevfoe I swear...
Now the chase is really on, and he's off down the middle of that old gravel road cause he seems to now it's hard to chase him barefooted on gravel.. baw off baw offf.... echo's thru the woods as I chase after the old rooster with the bum legg... and this goes on till he too tire to run any more.
He dun doubled back and I got him pinned in corner between the house and the garage... baw off.. he squacks at me difiently..
I'm pantin like an old hound dogg fresh in from a coon hunt and can't catch my breath... but that's roosters goose is cook... for sure.
finally I got my big paw around his grubby little neck and I look him in the eye and say Ya dinner bird... ha... baw off... was the return reply...
I took that old bird around back to give to grandpa to fix up for cookine and he just looks at me and says
Where ya been boy, We done ate and aint nothing left cept some green beans and okra...
WAT!!! BUT....!
BAW OFF.. the old rooster squacked one last time and i dropped him to the ground and he limped off to rejoin the rest of the chicken..

You should write a book about that adventure. Call it \"The Adventures of Lucky the Rooster and Hungry Man Russ.\" I have seen some of my family kill chickens when I was real little. They would ring their necks and throw them on the ground. I can remember begging my grandma to let me try it. I was like maybe 7 at the time, but she handed me one and let me do it. I killed that old chicken, but spent probably about an hour crying after I realized what I did.
Yepp I remember that feelin, 7 was the lucky year for me too... Only I got to use an axe... Now my grandpa explained to me that this wasn\'t meant to be mean, just fact of life livin on a farm, (or hobby farm) that we raise the chickens for food... and It was up to us men folks to do the butchering... Yeah rite... showed me one time how to do the deed...always felt sad for the chicken..but after a few dozen you kinda get numb.. cept maybe with the geese... mean old thang... so glad those days or over... but I am an old country boy... best wishes russ
Theres nthing wrong with country life sounds like fun to me russ.
We used to go visit my aunts in Louisiana my moms sister, and my dads sister. They both lived in the country and simi farm life.My aunt sahra my moms sister had chickens and pigglets and a horse. My cousin Bill used to take me for a ride on the horse bareback with a horse blanket.
She had a deep water well with a rope and bucket.I used to love to draw water at her well.Being a little old city girl that was a real treat to me.I loved my aunt sahras chicken and rice and would always ask her to make some.
She would go out ring a chickens neck, clean it and make chicken and rice for us.Today I couldnt eat a fresh killed chicken if you paid me ackkkk. :P
My dads sister aunt martha she was better off financialy. She had a big old house with a screened in wash porch in back.A fruit celler under the house and the biggist fireplace I ever saw.Two porch swings on the front porch that we used to play on all the time.
She had goats, turkeys, horses one named jim ;) and a water well out back too.But later she got modern and had an indoor bathroom installed.LOL!
Wow talk about a long time ago seems like a century ago to me.My aunt martha was al the time working, cooking big meals and baking and cleaning. We would go there and she would hand ya a broom or a dish rag LOL.Get ya up at the crack of dawn and go until dark...~pant~ ;P she seemed to never get tired.
Hmmm I mush have gotten some of her DNA ;)) LOL.
Well good memories never get old.
Have a good day my friend.
