StepSix – Accept yourself and others as you are!
Acceptanceis a funny thing. On the one hand, we are saying accept your mistakes and learnfrom them. On the other hand we are saying you are ok just as you are.
Weare saying: accept your darkness and bring it to the light. When you bring itto the light, the darkness will disappear. But what if it doesn’t?
Sometimeswhen I try to bring my darkness to the light, it’s the light that seems todisappear, and I am left sitting in deeper darkness. What do I do then?
ThenI have a simple choice, I can beat myself, feel like a failure and condemn Godand the world, or I can ACCEPT WHERE I AM. “Here in the darkness and theredoesn’t seem to be any light. That’s okay. This is just where I am. NO PRAISE.NO BLAME!”
When I do that, I become the light I waslooking for. Every gesture of SELF-ACCEPTANCE unveils the inner light and helpsto light my way. It may only do so two feet ahead of me, but that’s okay. WHENI ACCEPT MYSELF, THE NEXT STEP COMES BY ITSELF.
God’slove, grace, guidance, whatever you might call it, comes through the channel ofyour love for yourself. WHEN YOU ACCEPT YOURSELF AS YOU ARE, YOU OPEN THATCHANNEL. The same thing happens when you accept others as they are.
Theway to peace is a simple one, if you are willing to practice it:
Acceptanceis such a simple thing, yet it is the hardest thing we learn to do. For withacceptance, our ego steps aside. With acceptance, the barriers to love’spresence dissolve.Thispath is the path of acceptance. What you cannot accept you will oppose, and inthe opposition, will be your bondage. What you accept, moves gently throughyour heart. Nothing pushes you. Nothing holds you back. You move wherever lovewould have you go.
Webecome more patient. More forgiving. More relaxed. We learn to be gentle withourselves and others.
Itdoesn’t seem to be such a victory, but it is. When nothing stands between usand our peace, even if just for a moment, we experience divinity inside andout. There is no separation.
Thisis the fruit of the path of acceptance.
Remember, there is never a moment in our experience when acceptance of ourselves and ourbrothers and sisters will not restore our peace. There is never a moment whenthere are no obstacles to surrender.
Weaccept this not as a goal, but as a practice…For in the practice, the goal ismet.
