Day 2

The first day is always the easiest. I guess I am not that deeply entrenched in the alcohol that I cannot go a day without a drink. I spent the day reading through a few posts on here and doing some laundry. I also drank way too much... Mountain Dew that is.  I must have had 5 or 6 of them and I have never felt that kind of caffeine rush. My mind was racing, my heart was racing. My wife was talking to me while we were folding laundry and it was hard to concentrate. She probably thought I was drunk, like every other day.I did not tell my wife that I am stopping drinking. We do not talk about these things. She knows I drink and she knows I have a problem but the few times I have broached the subject with her it has not gone well. She does not understand alcoholism. She does not understand how I could be addicted to the alcohol and not just quit. To her it would be like choosing to stop going to the gym. Just an everyday decision. I am alone in my recovery although my wife and kids are the main reason I want to get better. If I didn't have them I would probably just drink and eat myself to death like my father is on the verge of accomplishing. I hope someday I can tell her "I haven't had a drink in a year!" Although I am sure it won't excite her as it probably isn't much of an accomplishment in her eyes.Today is day two and it should be another fairly easy day. I remember almost two years ago I tried to quit and I always had trouble with day 3. But I will worry about day 3 when it comes. Today is day 2 and today I will not drink.
