1 week vacation away from Ava
I never thought posting a journal entry about vacation would be marked "sad." Ian and I are leaving in less than 2 weeks for a 1 week all-inclusive vacation in Punta Cana and I'm starting to feel sick to my stomach; nauseous in fact! At the time we booked, it seemed like a good idea. I knew it would be hard, I had no idea it would be this hard. We have only left her one time with my mom over night, 3 months ago over the summer when we saw Train in concert at Northerly Island. It was our ONE evening of adult fun! And even then, it was very hard. I couldn't even sleep and she was only 20 miles away. I'm usually so excited for a vacation (it's been years) but I'm starting to dread this. We're leaving Ava with Ian's mom who has watched all 3 of his sister's kids at one time numerous times, for weeks at a time. I know she's in good hands, in fact I know this will be great bonding time for the 2 of them, but I feel so guilty and I'm so worried she's going to be angry at us. I just have no idea how I'm going to get through a whole week of vacation, in another country, away from my baby. Not sure I made the right decision.
We are bringing our touchpad so we skype with his mom so she can fill us in daily on Ava's activities. We're on the fence as to whether or not we should skype with Ava. I'm thinking that would probably confuse her and upset her more. Selfishly, I would LOVE to talk to her and let her see us daily, but I know at this age, 16 months, it's probably not the right thing to do. I'm thinking when we skype with his mom, she can non-chalantly display the camera on her so we can see her without her seeing us. It's just going to be so hard!
My girlfriends with older kids keep assuring me that she won't remember when she's older and that we need this vacation. We do need this vacation, especially since we'll be trying for baby #2 (now in fact) and after that, a vacation away just the 2 of us probably won't be happening anytime in the near future; maybe when their grown lol. However, it doesn't make me feel any better.
I will journal after vacation and let everyone know how awful it was!
