Woke up this morning to the reminder of my parents being not only mortal, but elderly. Mom's still in the hospital suffering from symptoms of her stroke. Nothing has really changed. She cries when my brother leaves her and has episodes of unreality. You cannot reason with her. If she says it happened, it happened. If she says she went...she went. Mom always was stubborn, now it's magnified x 100. My brother came today to take my Dad to his appointment with the dr. to see about getting some therapy at home for strenthening his arms, legs, etc. He had a fall about 2 weeks ago. He's 93 years old. That has been approved, along with something else that i have forgotten. They went back to Mom and Dad's and Terry (brother) made him lunch and they both took naps.
I watched tv and was goofing off on the computer while sitting with the heating pad on my knee when the phone rang. Low and behold it was my mom!..I guess she had gotten someone to dial my number for her. If you didn't know her, you couldn't understand her. She's my mom...i do. She was telling me about a beautiful bouquet of flowers she got from me, my brother and dad. Then she went off into unreality. She had been moved into a new room with two beds. She had been taken home for a visit and i needed to move the FURNITURE i had moved in her house while she was gone out before she got home. There also was a huge mess in the house where some people from her church came, had a party and left it...that needed to be cleaned up. Oh, and the temperature in the house was too cold...the thermostat needs to be set on 25 degrees...it's too cold if it's set any lower...she was cold while she was there. She told me my brother was there. I asked to speak to him...she kept calling his name and asking him to take the phone..then coming back and starting all over with the above...finally the phone fell on the floor and hung up.
I called my brother's cell phone. He was still with my Dad at Mom and Dad's house..He has never left. I told him what had happened. He said this is how she gets when he leaves. wow. I'm not answering any more phone calls from the hospital..only my brothers cell phone. I'm not sure my mother will ever be the same...but I sure am glad my Dad is having company over-night for the first time since i hurt my knee. My brother finally made the break from mom. I am proud. There are enough nurses and aids there to take care of her for now..She has a long way to go.
oh and yes..she really did get flowers...Terry just never told me he'd sent them.

Its hard my Dads last 2 weeks he would go out of it .He could not get out of bed. He thought he was walking all around. I just agreed with him. Its better than having them get upset. Hospice said the same thing. I know what you are going through. Its so hard seeing our parents like this. I hope your knee feels better!
Sorry about your mom. I pray she will recover from the stroke and become more lucid. I think you are doing the best you can do by not taking her calls. She won't know the difference right now anyway. Your brother can keep you updated. Glad your dad was approved for physical therapy. I hope it will strengthen him so he won't fall anymore. I'm praying for you, that God will give you peace and comfort right now with all that is going on.
