How do I cope with my first annivesary by myself?

Tomorrow is my first wedding anniversary without my husband. He passed away 2/24/16. Tomorrow would have been 20 years. He was so proud of our upcoming anniversary because my parents predicted we wouldn't make it six months.

Since joining the group, I've gotten such wonderful advice and insight from the members of this sight. I was hoping to find out how you coped with your first anniversary without your other half. Personally, I don't know how I'm going to make it through the day.

Hi Kathy. This is a tough one. I'm not sure what the answer is. For me, I just cried it out. I spent that first anniversary just letting myself go through the grief. It would have been our 11th, and it happened 4 months after I lost my husband and 4 days before my first Christmas without him. Since my husband first got sick, I became very "Scarlet O'Hara" about my emotions..."I'll think about that tomorrow". As I've wandered down this path, (it'll be 3 years in August since he died), I've found sometimes just letting it all out is the best medicine.

I firmly believe in my heart that our spouses never really leave us, so I'm sure he'll be by your side no matter what the day brings. I'll be keeping you in my heart, and sending you love and light.
