Writers With Post Traumatic Stress Disorder WWPTSD Community Group
I started this group because I suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and I was an avid writer before the Event that caused PTSD. Ever since I have realized that writing is the key to me overcoming this and making myself whole again. I would like to reach out and support others on this journey or a similar one.

I wanted to get some opinions on this monologue I wrote before I propose to perform it in front of this huge audience. Be critical or kind, I just don't want to screw it up.
Thank you.
[Listening to IPod, start singing along with the song]
She could be a statue of liberty/she could be a Joan of Arc/but he’s scared of the light that’s inside of her/so he keeps her in the dark
[Take out headphones]
You know, this song really hits me. See, I was once a victim. I met this guy a few years back in Vacation Bible School and it wasn’t long until he moved into the same school and we decided to start dating. At first it was great, he was great to me, I was happy. But then things started to change. He started making comments about me. “You’re stuck-up.” “You’re insane.” “All you want is to cause problems for everyone else.” He really tore me down. Then he tore my family down. He had me convinced that my mother was just trying to keep me from the entire world and that my dad might hurt me one day. Now, my parents are amazing people but I was young, 13, so I trusted him and believed him.
Then came the true abuse, I remember the first time he hurt me I was joking around with another guy and he grabbed my arm and pulled me into the school stairwell. He pushed me against the wall and demanded to know what I was doing. No, it wasn’t a punch or anything like that, but it was enough to leave bruises. Enough to get me scared. As the school year went on I had just convinced myself that I bruised easily and he didn’t know his strength. That was easy to rationalize, what came next was not.
He began to sexually abuse me. He made me do things for him that no 13 year-old would even think about. Even if I had known anything about sex, he never asked me, it was expected and if I didn’t know what I was doing he would “guide” [air quotes] me. In other words put his hands on me and make me do it himself.
Now tell me, would you leave someone that treated you like this? I thought so too but my fear won and I stayed with him until he locked me in the church basement, in our Sunday School room, and raped me. Now you may ask why but neither you nor I will ever hear that answer, I know that now, but you know what I think? Think about the song, maybe he put me through that dark Hell in my life because he was scared of the light within me. He was scared that I might become stronger than him, but you know what? I did it anyway! We can all do it anyway! I refuse to let him rule over my life and you can refuse to let anything, a person or even a self-destructive thought, rule over your life. I am strong. WE are strong.
[Put headphones back in]
‘Cause I used to be a shell/Yah I let him rule my world/But I woke up and grew strong/and I can still go on/and I’ll always be a/a pearl
[End]
Thank you.

I haven't come on here in a while and I have to say I admire your openness, courage, and you really have talent in your words. If I may ask who are you planning to share this with? Thanks for sharing on here. You survived what no 13 year old or any age for that matter should have to endure. And yes...you are strong! :)

Yes, who is the audience?

I am going to be presenting this at an event on a college campus. There will also be women from a women and children's center that come to the event every year.
