Romans 1:1-10
Hi everyone. I will give you my overview of the passage below, but I would love to hear other's thoughts, insights, interpretations, or a favorite verse from the passage. I would love any form of participation you choose.
(V. 1-7) Paul was called or chosen by God to preach the Good News which was promised in the Scriptures and spoken of through the prophets. The Good news is about Jesus, whom was born from King David’s family line. It was proven that Jesus is the Son of God when He was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. Through Christ we have authority to tell the Gentiles (non-Israelites) everywhere what God has done for them, so they will believe and obey. You are included in the Gentiles who have been called to belong to Jesus. Paul was writing this letter to the people in Rome, who were loved by God and called to be His holy people.
(8-10) Paul says first he wants to thank God through Jesus for them all, because their faith in Jesus was being talked about all over the world. He then tells them how often he prays for them, day and night bringing their needs to God. One thing he always prays for is for the opportunity to go and see the Romans.
The chapter/verse divisions was introduced about 1550--to help with location of a particular scripture in the Bible.
Most these books where written in continuous fashion...especially the letters of Paul to the different churches in his country and Romans to the Christians in Rome.
So, divisions we see in most Bibles were not divisions in the original text. So, context of scripture (what happens before and after verse/chapter divisions) can be very important.
I am not criticizing healthseeker division of scripture into digestible chuncks. I am just giving, hopefully, a little background that might help in our study of scripture.
I like v 5--privilege[c] and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere
It is a privilege--yes, yes-- And we are given the right, authority, to tell ANYBODY about our Lord and Savior!!!

And you are included among those Gentiles who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ.
Paul is very, very encouraging here.
WE have the "privilege and authority" to do so also!!!!
I liked reading your thoughts and insights. I'm sure we all can learn from you :)
I DO ask questions, though. And read a lot off background stuff.
I want to learn as much of the history and Jewish background as I can. Jewish customs are vastly different from ours. Hhmm!
And, I have learned many are afraid to ask questions about things that bother them when reading scripture. I love sharing what I have learned.
Through him and for him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among the Gentiles. to the obedience that comes from,faith. And you also are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
(Christians have privilege and great responsibility).
