Romans 8:12-17 (Quoted from NLT)
12-14 “Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. (13) For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. (14) For all who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.”
15-17 “So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, ‘Abba, Father,’ (16) For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. (17) And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we share his glory, we must also share his suffering.”
My comments: If we are led by the Holy Spirit, then we are God’s adopted children. We call him Father, and His Spirit joins with ours. We are God’s heirs. But if we share His glory, we must also suffer for the Gospel’s sake. The world hates God, the Bible, and anything holy. In John 15:18 Jesus said, “If the World hates you, remember it hated me first.” As Christians we will suffer persecution, just like Jesus did, but there will be great rewards in Heaven for any suffering we endure down here
Jeane you are so right. We have it easy here as compared to other countries, we have the freedom to worship as we choose, and we don't have to worry about being killed or jailed for our faith. That is a good question, whether or not we would be so steadfast if we suffered as others do. Hopefully as you said, our spirits would rise above the torment, and we would look forward to the peace and glory that will await us.
