Romans 7:14-25 (Quoted from the NLT)

14-17 “So the trouble in not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin. (15) I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead I do what I hate. (16) But if I know what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. (17) So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.”

18-20 “And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. (19) I want to do what is good but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong but I do it anyway. (20) But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.

21-25 “I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. (22) I love God’s law with all my heart. (23) But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to sin that is still within me. (24) Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? (25) Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: in my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.”

My Comments: I think we can all relate to Paul. He said that in his mind he really wants to obey God’s law, but he is a slave to sin. I think as Christians, we all WANT to obey and please God, but we all struggle with our sinful nature. Sometimes we hate the way we act, but changing our flesh isn’t always easy, because our fleshly desires are very powerful. Matthew 26:41 tells us that the spirit is willing , but the flesh is weak. But Paul says we have someone that can free us from a life dominated by sin, and that person is Jesus.

Amen. I know I certainly can relate to Paul's message. It's so much harder when we're younger too to not give in to temptation. But IS THERE EVER A PRICE TO PAY FOR GIVING IN!!!! Young ladies take heed.

Thank you Robin! Yes, I agree with you that the natural consequences of sin are usually quite costly, We are so much better off if we don't give in.

Hebrews 13:5 says that God never leaves us or forsakes us. I do agree with you that we can choose to walk away from God, and people that do that usually go back to their old sinful nature. I believe that the way we live our lives is evidence of what we believe. I don't believe our works save us. Romans 3:28 says we are righteous through faith, apart from our works. Paul talks a lot about being counted as righteous through our faith and not our works, but Jesus did say that if you love Him, then you will obey what He commands. (John 14:15). In the book of James he said in verse 2:26 that faith without works is dead. So I believe how we behave is just evidence of what we believe. I do believe a saved Christian can be stuck in a bondage that they want to get out of, but have trouble overcoming their flesh. In that respect, I don't believe we lose our salvation by sinning, but if we truly love God, then we should WANT to please God and do what is right. If a person enjoys sinning with no remorse, and has no desire to change, then I would question if they are truly saved. I don't know if that answers your question, about whether God walks beside sinful people or not. I believe it is more about a person's heart than it is about their actions. I believe God never leaves a person that has faith in Him and desires to please Him, even if their actions aren't always pleasing. Anyway, those are my thoughts and beliefs.
