Romans 12:9-21 (Quoted from NLT)
9-13 “Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. (10) Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. (11) Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. (12) Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep praying. (13) When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.”
14-18 “Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them, pray that God will bless them. (15) Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. (16) Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people, and don’t think you know it all. (17) Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. (18) Do all that you can to live at peace with everyone.”
19-21 “Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, ‘I will take revenge; I will pay them back.’ Says the LORD. (20) Instead, ‘If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.’ (21) Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.”
My comments: We should love other people by showing it in our actions, and it should make us happy to honor each other. We should hate what is wrong, and love what is good, working hard to serve God enthusiastically. When trouble comes, we should be patient and pray, and always be ready to help God’s people. Truly loving people means that we will bless those that persecute us, share in other’s happiness as well as their sadness, be kind to those that are evil to us, and try to get along with everyone. We won’t ever seek revenge, but we will leave that in God’s hands. Instead we will take care of the needs of our enemies, and we will conquer evil by doing good.
My biggest takeaway is Romans 12:20-21 New King James Version (NKJV)
20 Therefore
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
If he is thirsty, give him a drink;
For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

43 “You have heard that it has been said, ‘You must love your neighbor and hate those who hate you.’ 44 But I tell you, love those who hate you. (*Respect and give thanks for those who say bad things to you. Do good to those who hate you.) Pray for those who do bad things to you and who make it hard for you. 45 Then you may be the sons of your Father Who is in heaven. His sun shines on bad people and on good people. He sends rain on those who are right with God and on those who are not right with God. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward can you expect from that? Do not even the tax-gatherers do that? 47 If you say hello only to the people you like, are you doing any more than others? The people who do not know God do that much. 48 You must be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect.
