is your gynie male or female? does it have to be one or the other for you?
mine always HAD to be female and i'll NEVER see a male gynie!
one time, back when i was still in the service, they made me see a male doc against my wishes....but that's the military for you, what do they care what your wishes are? anyways, that was the WORST experience i've ever had! this guy had me all propped up on the table and asked me how many partners i've had! i told him "why?" and he said that it is protocol to inform me about cervical cancers and that the more partners the more chance of it occurring. so i told him i had 6. all of a sudden he says, "wow that's a lot! and it's only natural that you will have a few more before you will settle down. well, i guess this procedure should be easy for you since you have had so many partners!" ....WTF does that mean?!!! needless to say, ever since that day, i will NEVER EVER see a male gynie again! in fact, i've made sure to even switch my PCM to female and always keep it that way!! back when i was still serving, i had to drive about 2 hrs to a female gynie every time for my exam, but i didn't care. as long as those asshole males don't ever talk to me or lay a hand on me ever again.
so for you, is it male or female? do you have any bad gynie stories?
It really depends on the individual really. There are bad female ones as well ( as a midwife, I do know what I'm talking about here)
When I developed severe gynae probs last year I knew who I wanted to see, and he happened to be male. But I'd seen him in action, so to speak, and knew he was the best one in the area.
It was embarrassing, esp as i still have to work with the guy now.
But he was professional and very good. Did my hysterectomy ( you try working with someone who's seen your ovaries :). )
My Gynie is now retired....but he was awesome...first of all Cervical Cancer has nothing to do with how many partners you've had....I've only had 3 partners my entire life and I was diagnosed with 5th stage Cervical Cancer which means most likely it is also in my Uterus, and my Gynie was right...he wasted no time in doing a Biopsy then doing a Hysterectomy....he busted all the myths I would hear about Cervical Cancer and Hysterectomies....he had an awesome bedside manner, and most importanatly he was gentle and very calming to me when I was in the OR awaiting surgery...he made the time to sit next to me and comfort me. He also diagnosed my Ovarian Cancer very early stressing on me how important follow up visits are....thank goodness I listened to him...and there again he was absolutely great. I have had women family doctors who I had a good experience with also. The family doctor I have now is abnoxious and I can't stand him...I have to see a Gynie because I know I am going to need a Bladder Suspension done....my Gynie told me this back in 2001 that eventually 5-10 years I would need one...and here I am 8 years later needing one....but I plan on going to the urgen care clinic to get a referral to a Gynie here that is awesome...he delivered my grandson so I already know him and about him and his ways.
Here you don't really have no choice. Why...because most of the gynie here do not take new patients and we have very few gynie. I'm lucky to have a gynie, even tho' it is a male. He does have a good bedside manner and very gentle, respects your wishes and always concerned about how your doing. So I don't mind.
I've always seen a man. Always been treated with much respect. If I had been talked to in that manner I would have reported him. Ever one has someone to answer to. That was just inappropriate.
Mine is female now, I fired the male I was seeing. I went to him with terrible monthly problems, I was bleeding more of the month than I wasn't, severe cramps and clots. This man didn't run any tests, just told me "every womans cycle is different, yours is just heavier and longer than most, it's normal!" Turns out it's normal if you have ovarian cysts and are anemic!!!
Like Blue.. the military doesnt always give you a choice.. and I had a bad run in with a male one at my first duty station. They had to do a biopsy to confirm the cervical cancer.. and the dr that performed it was menace. What was the shocker...was the other male dr that was observing.. turned him in for his actions.
I dont have a real preference. I do prefer male drs but have been seeing a great woman for the last 4 years.
When I was in college I had to see males because that's all planned parenthood had. One of the guys was gay so Im not sure it counted. I did not like it just made me feel weird. Since then I had females. One was way too rough. I switched to another female who treated my sis too when she was preg. she was terrible and hardly listened or spoke. I tried to switch again but the office was very rude and told me I had to speak to the nurse first. So I switched to another practice and LOVE my new female doctor. She sat and had a conversation to get to know me.
I've always used female docs. Men don't understand what women go through, they only know what they are told or taught in a text book. That's why I use females. Most male gyns are assholes. I used to work as a L&D nurse at a teaching hospital, I saw a lot of assholes, lol. The female docs were mostly cool.
Ive had both. Doesnt matter much to me but i did just have a nurse tell me to find a GOOD GYN & get hormones cked. Now mind u, i havent been to GYN in 14 yrs. Always had my GP do my paps but he's a MAN & can they really understand how it feels to go thru MENopause & what its like to bleed for 7-10 days straight???
The 1st time i was PG, i went to the free clinic. I was 19. The dr was a total ass saying shit bout these young kids getting pg w/o being married etc... The nurse took him out of the room & i heard her chew his ass out good.
My last baby, *** NO OFFENCE MRSBUTTERFLY*** i had a midwife. I asked where the sturps where & she told me "I dont use them" WTF?? Whos having this baby anyhow. Then she let me tear instead of cutting me. That was at age 34.
My Gynie is a male. We actually grew up together, our parents were best friends, and this doc is my parents godson,,kinda weird huh..really not related at all...probably played *doctor* as kids.lol..My mother couldn't believe that I was going to him...that made NO sense to me...Having known him all my life...I knew I could trust him WAY more than going to a stranger. I was not uncomfortable about it at all...and neither was he. After convincing my mom it was ok....now she goes to him as well....lol....
I've had both. The woman was too rough and the men seemed to know their way around easier.
But currently I have a male (old fart) but I don't see him. I've been seeing the midwife in his office instead and she's great.
give me female any day..i was poorly..gynie wise had doc male doc internal...poking around i was in pain..he carried on..for a while..?...why..i was embarresed by length of this internal..examination was embarrising..then it was hysterocmty...op...what for???/ fybroids....had full hysteromty ovaries removed as well?...was told fibroids not cancerous...so why take ovaries as well...never ever would i let a male gyne near me
