Mardi Gras by decorating their homes and balconies.
The tradition of Mardi Gras was brought into the Americas at the tail end of the 17th
century by French explorers Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville and Jean Baptiste Le Moyne
de Bienville.
The Le Moyne brothers had been dispatched to explore and survey the French-
claimed territory of Louisiane, which at that time included much of the territory that
is today occupied by the states of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
