I recall shortly before my wife passed away, that as I sat by her bed with her unconscious person breathing and little more, something came over me. I had never been much of a man of faith or one who knew much of anything Biblical. For some reason on this particular evening, I was moved to stand and lean over and whisper the Lord's Prayer softly into her ear.
I don't really know how I was able to come up with the words, as this is something that I had never before done in my life. But recite it I did, and my tears fell on her cheek as I did so. I think that that was the time that I began to realize that God was speaking to me; he was attempting to coax me to come closer to Him. That is a moment that I shall never forget as long as I draw breath.

Our Father, which art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done,
in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

As my husband lay in his coma, I kept hearing the words "call the priest" vibrating in my brain. My husband was catholic, though not a practicing one. However, I asked the nurses to please call the priest. He arrived, administered last rites and ask me to recite the Lords Prayer with him. I was afraid I wouldn't remember all the words, but I did. Then he said the Hail Mary. I did not know the words, but just listened. At the end of the Hail Mary prayer it says "pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death". My husband passed away less than an hour later.
I do believe our loved ones needed those prayers to go into the Light and be with God.
