Regrets

  I recently saw a billboard I really liked:


   If the devil trys to remind you of your past.    Remind him of his future!


    This directly addresses regret and maybe more important forgiveness of oneself.  In the  widow journey and life in general


 we often wrestle with regret.  For myself personally I wrestled with several regrets including 1)Should we have done so many radiation


 treatments because they caused so much discomfort 2) I wish I would have spoken more openly about her pending death. But I was 


 consumed with fighting the cancer and didnt want to give up 3) taking life so much for granted before the cancer. Of  course life in 


 generalhas many regrets.  I have worked past my regrets with Gods help.  Really if we dont forgive ourselves who wins? The devil


 who wants to beat us down.  Widowhood is a time when we are very vulnerable whixh is a time when he wants to manipulate us.  God 


 definitely wants to forgive us and see us love him and ourselves both.  We are often our loudest critics but all our regrets are lessons 


 learned that made us the people we are. Do you have any thoughts and expereinces with regret?

Thanks Gerry. I have, like everyone else, battled regrets. And still do sometimes. Like if I had only called Linda the day of her accident maybe she would have changed her plans and stayed home. Then no car accident. The morning I lost her. If only I had stayed home she wouldn't have been alone ans maybe I could have gotten her help. And she would be here. But one of the things God keeps telling me is this. There is always a reason for everything that happens. And it happens according to His plan. So all those times I had an idea I could have intervened and stopped it. It was Him stopping me from intervening so His plan could be carried thru.
And I do feel in my heart that on the day we are with Him it will all be explained in His time. It isn't His will that we hurt for eternity not understanding.
He isn't a God of confusion so I have to believe He will unravel that confusion in His perfect time.

Regrets, yes, while we live here in our finite bodies we experience emotions that at times can torture our being.
Thanks for sharing the billboard, so TRUE! It is work to not let our despair control us. I have to remember that God is in control. I must trust Him for guidance as I continue my journey as a widow.
Why? I really wonder, I don't have the answer but He does. Days that are more trying than others lead me go to our Lord in prayer, seeking His help to endure.
He is faithful
