In my 6 year journey of being a widower I have met many many people that have been forced onto this very difficult road. Some have chosen to remarry over time, some have chosen to never date, some have chosen to move, some felt better after 1 year, 2 years 3 years 4 years 10 years and some never. Some have started new careers, some have clung to the familiar. Many lost there own identity with the loss and some found a new identity along the road. Some developed new friendships, while other have fought isolation. Some wrestled with financial hardship, health hardships, family hardships, while others expereinced new joy through new people and expereinces. There is no raod map on this journey called grief and we all travel it with the resources, life expereince, strengths and weaknesses, that are different in each of us. There are common denominators we share. We loss the love of our lives. Are lives were changed forever. And we have chosen to lean on our faith on this challenging road.
Do I still wish I had a magic clock that could turn back time. Part of me does and yet part of me would never deny life in heaven with God I know my sweetheart enjoys. I have said it many times clinging to God has allowed me to move forward in my darkess moments usually when it seemed all hope was lost. I have learned with God hope is never lost. Clinging to God doesnt mean you wont expereince pain. It means you will be comforted when it occurs. My most peaceful moments have come when I try to surrender to God but like most people I often want to do it my way and peace doesnt come with that attitude.
It humbles me that God put such a amazing woman in my life for 23 years. Can I really be mad at God for giving me such a amazing gift. Whether I am blessed with another in my lifetime only God knows for sure. I do know my most important job is developing my relationship with God and being used by him to help others. There is a beautiful song called 'kkep your eyes on me" . In this grief journey I have found that is only way to peace regardless of the paths we take getting there. I have always believed in the Creator and the strength of his will. I know he didn't take john to hurt me, but it hurt. I would never want that undone for my own selfishness. John was in pain and nothing in me would want that extended. I dream of him often walking down tree filled roads, taking balloon rides and being with his brothers and friends of ours. I am still here because there is still a reason I believe.
But that's not to say I won't have bad days, I won't want to grab the chair and have4 a sit down....but I am sure that the Creator smiles a little at that, after all I am as I am made with the wit and wonder that eventually helps me through. I am the human the Creator made.
Meanwhile when I see all that is going on in this world I thank the Creator that I learned to backstroke.

handg its so nice to see fellow travellers pop in once in awhile. I smiled when you wrote I believe in my own way. I have a dear friend who asks people do you believe in (G)ood (O)rderly (D)iscipline. When they say yes she says in my books you believe in God. God calls all in different ways but the love is available to anyone if we allow it.
