Truhal
I'm here to ask for prayer regarding my dad. It's been a long process, but basically he has had mental issues all his life that has gotten worse either from him coming off medications or the onset of dementia. Last week I managed to get social services involved. It's a hard process, especially in Illinois, but I had them to come in and see that he did not have food in the house and was basically starving himself to death.
I'd been trying to get him help for a long time and was told legally I had no recourse. Dad has threatened to kill people, physically attacked me, gives his money away then accused me of stealing it, won't bath or care for the house, and still I was told he has the right to do that. However, this time was different. Dad had given most of his money away and had only four hundred dollars left. I immediately started sending him food using this money which was only available to me via online. Dad has never liked me and has taken great effort in making my life miserable even if it makes his own life miserable. At any rate, he called the bank and cut off all access to his account, leaving me with no way of getting food to him. He then called me and said he was starving. That's when I made my move to get social services involved. I'd tried many times before, had contacted lawyers and was told the same, a dementia patient has the full rights of a normal citizen. He signed himself out of a hospital just two months ago when his physician said he had dementia yet was competent to make decisions.
Long story short, social services, 2 cops and I had dad taken to a hospital based on the fact that he did not have food in the house, nor the ability to get food. Dad apologized to me in the hospital as he ate his lunch and immediately ordered another one. One hour later he threw me out as expected. A few days later I was called and told that he was being taken to a mental hospital. And that's where the problem started. I can't find out how he is doing because the law for mental hospitals is that they can neither confirm or deny the presence of a patient. You must have a code number to talk to them. So, I'm asking for prayers for him as I can no longer see him. Just a few months ago when he was in the hospital for cancer, he was sent to a rehabilitation institute. I was heavily involved in his care, arriving at all hours just to make sure he was not harmed by the staff. Now, i can't do that. Can't even get in. Not even sure he is there.
Dad, like many of us can't remember telephone numbers so he couldn't call me even if he was desperate to talk to me. He does not have the key to his house because they took him by ambulance. This is such a warning for all without power of attorneys on file.
Thanks for reading.

Truhal I am so sorry for this torture you are going through. I can't even begin to imagine your feelings, but absolutely I will pray for you and your dad. Hang in there. Hugs. Katrina

As you know I definitely am praying for you both. Give time for the storm to settle as there could be a rainbow on the other side(appropriate accommodations for your dad and maybe a better relationship when he is stabilized). It is a grueling tiring process when you are advocating for someone who is not able to fend for themselves. It is the right thing to do and God is with you. Another big Canadian hug headed your way. My prayers are with you and your dad. I went through my mom's dementia and it was horrible. The staff told me she wasn't aware of her actions, that part of her brain was now damaged. I hope they were right. I was fortunate to be included in the plans so I visited her often. Most times she demanded I either take her home or leave. It was a very sad and difficult time in my life. Hugs, Sharon

May God Bless you for loving and caring for your sick Dad. I can't imagine what this must be like. I was fortunate to have A Saint for a Dad. I will certainly pray for you and for your Dad. I'll pray for the Doctor's to find the right medication to stabilize him. May the Love of God be with you. Hugs, Dolores

I am so happy that your prayers were answered and I will continue to pray that they can find the right combination of drugs and therapy to help your dad. With God all things are possible. Hugs. Katrina
