God Never Blinks

My daughter gave me this book for Xmas. I've been reading it every day. While reading it, some MORE healing is going on; so I thought I would share. Often, I'm so worried about other people that I don't stop to ask myself what I think and what matters to me. The concept of "me" has been very difficult since becoming a widow. At 40 years old, I only knew how to do "we", when he died; leaving "me".
Most of my actions and decisions have been based on what others expect or think. To this day, when I hear of a widow/ widower who remains single, a pang of guilt sears through my heart. My internal messages condemn me for not making the same decision. Reading this book has made me realize how many internal messages condemn me.
I'm really not a bad person. Some would even call me successful, some even envious. But it only really matters what's in my heart. I needed this little step to occur. I can only live my life and nobody else's. And nobody else can be me. Regardless of opinions or judgements, I've been on a journey, watching my father and then husband succumb to cancer 8 months apart, continuing on without them in my life, being a single mom and doing the best I can as grief washed over my family and receded, leaving remnants of a life once lived.
God is with us on this journey, when we hurt, when happy, when afraid and when we heal. How ironic this book would be a gift from a 16 year old girl who questions God! I always think that I need to be the rock for her and guide her through her healing. I guess she and I are a lot alike!
The author of the book is Regina Brett. She writes from the perspective of someone who has experienced life trials and learned from them.

I loved reading your post. For me it affirms everything I'm facing today.
I know God watches over us...I see how my children live their lives. How my grandchildren are growing up.
They come up with questions that astound me. ( I learn something new everyday, just from their questions )
Yes, Mel, I agree, God knows my heart, my motives, my intents, my feelings, as long as I keep my relationship with Him, pure and clean, that, for me, is what counts.
