For those of you that dont know I am 3 weeks away from moving half way across the country to the west coast of Canada. I have lived in the same city my entire life. As I prepare to leave I have been invited to a variety of farewell parties. As I attend these from both people I knew in the past and people I know now I realize how much I have influenced their lives and how much they have influenced mine. Gods community is truly a group of brothers and sisters interconnected in some way. I have been truly humbled by the love that has touched my life in so many ways over the years. From all the people I have met to the spouse I spent 23 years with in a loving relationship. When you step back you cant help but be amazed by Gods kindness and love. I sold my house this week. Although I shared many years in this house with my wife it is a thing/object and I carry the most precious memories in my heart and mind. I started the grief journey hanging onto everything she owned and gradually God gentlely taught me to let go. The hardest letting go was to let go of her and trust that she is in Gods care. As I prepare to leave it feels like a funeral as I watch my previous life be reminisced about but it also feels like the beginning of a new life. 5 years ago I lived in total despair and pain that lasted well over 2 years. I soooo just wanted to die. By the grace of God he walked with me through grief and brought me to the new life I am excited about living today. My dear wife will always be part of who I am because she taught me sooo much and gave me a beautiful daughter. She will be smiling and what a beautiful smile she had. She always wanted me to move forward but I needed to wrestle with the monster called grief first. For those of you reading this regardless where you are in the journey please remember there is always hope when you walk with God. God bless. Gerry

All the best to you Gerry as you make this transition!! I have a sister on Vancouver Island (Port Alberni) and it is a beautiful area to live!! (I am in Ontario west of Toronto.) Praying that you will find happiness and live a long and fruitful life!! ((Hugs))

Congratulations on the sale of your home. I am at the year and a half mark, and I still feel utter despair. However, because I did not give up on God as some have after losing a loved one, I still have hope. Things are beginning to come together ever so slowly. My stepson is going to get his dad's book publishing business up and running again, which was my late husband's heartbeat and passion. That will keep him "alive" in a sense. People are also asking for copies of the Christian newsletter that he was once a big part of for over thirty years. Aaron created a website where he posts these. I haven't made a decision yet about relocation, but I am going on an extended vacation in July. I have a new grandson named after my other LH (Sammy), and my next to the oldest son is getting out of prison and going into a halfway house after 15 1/2 years. I think we have everything figured out on the headstone; I am glad I persevered to get the book publishing logo on there! I pray that there's no hitch but wonder why it took 6 months for this to happen. I just about have my last storage unit cleared out and am continuing to downsize. I haven't met anyone as far as a relationship. The one widower I know here is 9 years older than me, so, even though he's nice and reminds me of Sam in a lot of ways, I have to face the reality that I could be planning a memorial service for him within another five years - if we got together. So I will just be a friend to him and wait on the right one. I want someone who will cherish and take care of me for a change. And he must be sold out to the Lord. You are in my thoughts as you make this transition, and I wish you the very best!

Gerry, I wish you the very best with your move. You've been an inspiration to everyone. Even though your heart was breaking you always found words of comfort for others. My husband and I spent a night on Vancouver island 2 days before his cardiac arrest. We had a wonderful time at Buchart Gardens. That was to be our last outing together. I wish you all the very best in your new life and am sure God will continue to use you in more amazing ways.

Hi Gerald; don't visit here much anymore but got a notice that you had posted here. Congrats, you've taken a huge step and a leap of faith that it will turn out for the best, and I hope it does. You're leaving a trying time in your past behind you. Only you know what you have to do to make this work. We're in the same time frame but I haven't been able to leave the place where Diane lived for over 50 years. My hat's off to you for having a motive to do it.

Gerry, I am happy for you.
I truly admire your resilience and how you battled, using so much integrity of heart, to obtain it.
Today I reviewed your journaling and I marvel at how you consistently pushed yourself forward.
I just pray for some degree of such determination and perseverance to be kindled inside of me.

Gerry, I’m so happy to hear about your next journey in life. You have been here for me and you lifted me up when I was down many times. You sound confident that you are following God ‘s plan for you. You inspire me to work on having a close relationship with God. I’ve been reading on how to pray and I read a book on how prayer can move mountains.
I know how hard it is to let go of your wife. I have the same issues of letting go of my husband. I had 15 wonderful years with him. Life changes and we have to be resilient in order to survive.
