Truhal
Please pray for me. I need to forgive my father for something he said tonight.
Here's what happened: My husband passed in March of last year. Since then my father has emotionally attacked me, draging my name in the dirt from one end of town to the other. I've done nothing to deserve it. As a result, I've seen my bloodpressure go up. And decided I had to make a clean break of it. So, two days ago I decided to break contact with him. It was hard, but something had to be done. As it was, I was on a collision course with the grave.
So yesterday my father called me at lunch. First he called me at work. I wasn't there. So he called my cell phone and I was dumb enough to answer. He said that he needed to talk to me. That he was weak and had a past that made him the way he is. He said he'd always been afraid to talk to me about it, thinking I would be afraid.
He asked me to call him when I got home.
I was stupid and called him. Now I'm a wreck. He started in on me right away, accussing me of causing his foot problems. T hen he said something that took my breath away. His words: That's why your husband didn't want to stay home with you. You're a horrible person.
My husband had no choice but to work. He was like a lot of us. They downsize and give you the work of the people who were let go. He was a kind and gentle man who loved me very much. He proved that in a million ways.
So why would someone who claims to love you say something so horrible? And how do I as a Christian forgive him?
Right now I'm battling for my soul. God is clear on this: We must forgive. And yet he's said so much to me over the past 11 months that has been hurtful. It's like he's glad I'm a widow and wanted to see me hurt. He's been kicking me since I've been down.
I've done nothing to deserve it. He even blames me for a bunion he's had over 60 years. Earlier this year I gave him 15 thousand dollars, redecorated his house, paid for gutter guard and a new shower, purchased a used car for him, all new furniture and a dog(even paying to have him trained). I wanted nothing back, not even a thank you. I did it because I wanted to do it. But since then I've heard nothing but how he changed his house around for me.. How I'm a selfish, evil person. How I'm the reason he quit his job(he's 83 and just retired ten months ago.) This in spite of the fact that the doctor said if he'd continued walking on his foot, it would have had to have been amputated.
Dare I say that my heart that once was full of love for him now hates him. And oh how I dislike using such a powerful word. Yet, he's destroyed me and anything I am now he's made me.
So I need your prayers. And I need them badly. I've got to let all this hate and anger go before there's nothing left of me.
Pray for my soul.

Your soul doesn't need prayed for, you know that! Your soul is already taken care of by Jesus, once you opened your heart to HIM.
Now, forgiveness, yes, we do have to forgive. The first reason is that Jesus / God / Bible says so. Next, because if you do not forgive, then you are the one that it hurts. The person that you can't forgive isn't hurting or being hurt. They are usually living their life and
not worrying about you. (Your father may not be doing this though, because he evidently is in /or having some kind of mental breakdown.)
To forgive is divine. We can NOT do it by ourselves. Over several years, while I worked on forgiveness for 3 different people in my life who hurt me so badly that I almost had a breakdown of my own, I learned a lot about forgiveness. I read a lot of books on forgiveness during that time also. I learned that I could begin the process of forgiveness~~first of all by praying for the Lord to help me. HE understands. Next, even though I wondered how I was going to forgive, I would say, "I forgive ______ "(their name +s) and try to pray for them. It was hard to do ~~ at first, but, gradually, it got easier. The Lord knows when we are truly 'trying', and HE accepts that. Sometimes, it takes longer to forgive than most people think it does, or I'm just 'stubborn'. Truly, it takes a while for most of us. Turning my heart over to Jesus ~~ completely was the only way to do it, and I feel that HE understands.
I've already sent a prayer up for you. You will be able to forgive. Just pray and follow your heart. BUT, you will probably have to stay away from your father. Just because we forgive, does not mean that we have to stay around a person who has hurt us.
Hugs and Prayers, Joely
Heavenly Father, I lift Tru up to You...knowing that You are merciful, compassionate and abounding in Grace and Love. Comfort her, Lord, and reassure her of Your Love. Ease her distress, and give her Your Peace and help her, Father, as only You can. In Jesus Name...Amen.
Pray about it, ask God to help you. Know that he is not healthy or well, whether its Alzheimer or mental health issues, he may be a fragment of the Dad you grew up with. Like Joely said, you may have to love him from afar. Let go and let God heal your broken heart. I love you as a Sister in Christ and tonight I will pray for your soul and for you to learn to forgive. You will be able to forgive, have faith. For without it, it is impossible to please Him. Much love to my sister in Christ.
True forgiveness begins with the desire to obey God no matter what the situation. I grew up in an abusive home as a child and I experienced abuse from my dad as an adult. It was all verbal as an adult. Years ago the Lord dealt heavily with me to forgive my dad. It was hard to do at first, but I so wanted to please the Lord. So I made it an act of my will to forgive my dad and lift him in prayer. As I daily did this I took all thoughts captive to the obedience of Gods word. In other words when any negative thought came into my mind concerning my dad or how he treated me I refused them. I simply said no to destructive thinking and instead I embraced Godly thinking by meditating on what I was reading in Gods word. For years I had little contact with my dad. I found it was easier to put the forgiving into practice while not seeing him too often. Anytime I did see him I walked in love and honored him because he was my earthly father. Having done this I no longer have any negative feelings for him. In my obedience to God and His word the Lord dealt with all of my feelings and He brought great healing to my soul.
I will be praying for you, asking the Lord to help you obey His word and also that in His infinite mercy and grace He will heal you of all wounds both past and present.
God Bless you, Helen
Have prayed for you & will continue to lift you up in prayer. May our Lord comfort you always.
