My kids have always been active in various sports. My boys did track and football all through high school, and my daughter, who is a senior in high school has always been active in volleyball and cheer.
This is her final year, and she is a varsity cheerleader. Our school, as I think many do, does what is called "parents night" for the senior class. Tomorrow night, at the game, all of the senior class members of the football team and the cheer squad, will be escorted onto the field by their parents and the names of the students and their escorts will be announced over the loud speaker.
Shane and I both escorted our sons for this "special" night in their senior year. But tomorrow night, I will escort our daughter alone. I have no hopes of "holding it together" for this event... I have already spent a large portion of today sobbing uncontrollably at the thought of it. Life sucks

Big hugs to you. Yes it will be extremely hard, but you can (and will) do it because you are very strong and you know that Shane will be there right beside you in spirit.

Oh, my friend, I feel for you. I remember Parents Night when my kids were in high school. I'm so sorry. I know that doesn't help, but it's all I can offer right now. This is going to be one tough walk. You'll make it, if just for the sake of your daughter.

My hugs and thoughts also!!! I'm trying to think of something to say of cheer and good will . . however, in times like this, there are often no words of comfort. You are right . . it SUCKS. Easy does it on the mascara tonight and make sure you have your stash of tissues! I'll be thinking of you. xo, D

it was extremely difficult... glad it's over... My daughter carried a framed picture of her dad as we walked, and they did honor Shane's memory, and speak of him over the loud speaker. My daughter and I sobbed through it all.

OMG, I'm sobbing with you and your daughter! How very difficult that must have been . . yet to have had the tribute and acknowledgment of Shane's life and in honor of his life lived for his family as a part of this . . . very moving!! I am so proud of you Amy for being there spiritually and physically for your daughter. I know Shane would have been there in the reverse case of your absence. You've done your family proud.

I know it was difficult, so treat self with your fave pillow and quilt . . go to bed and weep silently in joy and sorrow. It was a big day. You did it. You were ever present for your daughter and her friends, your family and those that truly care and think about you. You were the ROCK today. I truly am proud of you!

Now time to take care of self. We're here for the fall-out, when and if you need us. Hugs and hugs, D

I am typing through tears--that must have been so incredibly tough! No one expected you or your daughter to get through that dry-eyed, I am certain. Good for you both!
