we used to sing Where have all the flowers gone, at summer camp as a kid. for us, it was just a song with easy lyrics to remember. for those who were grown up, they were prompting us to sing it it after someone had news that someone had passed, usually in viet nam, that was connected to the counsellors or administration.

some would leave and cry when the kids were singing that song. they took that song out of our songbook because parents complained that it was too confusing for the kids, because we had no idea what they were crying about.

Peter Paul and mary had some real good ones

Barry Sadler sang a lot of songs of Vietnam that when the Wall was dedicated we sang most of them. Ballad of the Green Berets was his most famous one.

I remember the ballad of the Green Berets. Is there anyone who saw Nancy Senatra while in Vietnam? She sang "These Boots Are Made For Walking". My husband said he got to drive her around in Vietnam. He told me he was also in the movie of the Green Berets with John Wayne but he was in a group that was marching and could not be seen.
